'gearbox fault' on dashboard screen but only changed spark plugs??

Hello everybody,

[my pics are located at

using chrome open in new tab and click it to magnify]
2002 x-type 2.0 ltr auto 62850 miles.

I really hope some knowledgeable chap can help me with this one.
edit:
about 400 miles before this I had the engine check light come on and the 'cruise control unavailable' message come on. This was intermittent for about the first 150 of these 400 miles [during a trip but on every startup] and then was hard on. I then changed spark plugs [both banks] and cruise control message gone and replaced with 'gearbox fault' message on every startup.
end-edit.

I am a newbie at this and is the first time I have attempted anything on a car.
I've just changed the 2 banks of spark plugs ?successfully? - well I thought so. The engine purrs lovely again but the yellow warning light has come on on the dash and a 'gearbox fault' message is displayed. I have reconnected all the electrical connections and hoses that I had to remove to get the intake manifold off to get at bank 1 spark plugs. However, I can't see that any of these would affect the gearbox warning anyway??
I took it out for a run and when I slow down for junctions etc the car lurches once or twice but then works OK or appears to. Of course it could be that it's coincidence and there really is a problem and it's not a hose or plug not put back properly?
I had one problem with a hose that had a big split on it so I had to fashion a new one. I used a circlip at the throttle housing end and a new piece on the valve end. It appears to be OK but I hope this won't be the cause?? Also I put 2 pints of oil in the engine. Other than that I followed the guide on this forum and it seemed to go well.

Coincidence? maybe you have a gearbox fault? Get it on a diagnostic if you have a reasonable indy near to.
Have you tried disconnecing the battery for a few minutes?
jamiewilson Thank you. I have read the codes and have attached an .rtf document that shows 2 screen prints. The first after connecting the reader for the first time and the second after having cleared the codes and supposedly turned the engine check light off.
I still have this light on and the gearbox fault warning message.
Any help would be appreciated.

redfox666 no I haven't disconnected the battery as of yet. I thought I'd wait till I got the codes read. Now I've got that info do you think I should still do this? I don't want to lose the radio code.

sequence of following attachments:

'Clear codes' pressed and should turn engine check light off but didn't. started engine for 1 minute[didn't drive anywhere] connected reader again to get
x-type-codes-2.jpg

Being a newbie and a little more than ignorant is there anything I can do. I found this split/hole in the crankcase breather hose and have ordered one but have cut a length of other hose to replace it and circlipped both ends????

astromorg mentions that P0171 could be caused by ..., Throttle Position Sensors)
and I'm getting P0122. Am I grasping at straws here? Can someone tell me how I go about solving the P0122 please?
Can anyone tell me what this hose is please?

Hmmm! can't see any of my attachments????? Went to Advanced, Add files ?!?!?
G
you need to use somewhere like photobucket for pics or mediafire for files
OK well the attachments would have shown following story.
First time I attached OBD reader was after changing spark plugs. Didn't have the unit before. It showed following codes
Stored P0171, P0122, P0133, P0153
Pending P0122, P1111
'Clear codes' pressed and should turn engine check light off but didn't.
started engine for 1 minute[didn't drive anywhere] connected reader again to get this
Stored P0122
Pending P0122, P1000
Went for a 5 mile run up to 50mph only then cleared and read codes again to get this, same as above
Stored P0122
Pending P0122, P1000
Can anyone tell me where this P0122 Throttle/Pedal position sensor/switch A is located and/or what I need do to fix it please. Also I'm assuming that as P0171 hasn't reappeared that the new spark plugs have remedied the Lean (Bank 1) or am I hoping for too much?
Any advice gratefully received.
Cheers

The new revised ribbed breather hose arrived this morning. I replaced the one I fashioned to replace the old one that had a big hole in it but the engine check light and the gearbox fault message are still on. The car still lurched when I slow for a junction and the revs get to about 1100 and jumps to about 1500/1600.
Any help please?
pics and read codes at simply art, simply crapart
I have spent the last 2 days and late into the nights googling and reading in this and other forums. Whilst the symptoms are the same as many posts the remedies have not been the answer to my current problem.
Can anyone help put me out of my misery please?
I think you may of forgot to put a wire plug connector back on the intake manifold. There should be 4 plugs to it. One on the left, one on the top and two on the right side where the electronic throttle control is. An extra wise to the maf sensor and dont forget about the air thing that gets put into the back of the manifold next to where the loom gets bolted up to. I'd retrace your steps thoroughly and go from there mate

Ryan
Thanks Ryan. I have been over my steps twice now without actually taking off the manifold again. Just can't see what it could be. What's infuriating me is that all I did was to change the spark plugs, did nothing to the gear box so short of the gearbox actually having suddenly developed a problem it can ONLY be something that I have done. Ah well I'll go over it again.. The actual steps taken to do the spark plugs wasn't all that many - really.
Rest assured I shall report back even if it is a stupid error on my part.
Then, it's off with the manifold to check the O rings!
Fuse 67 AND 75 in the glovebox, a new Battery and disconnecting the auxiliary sounder under the N/side wheel arch got rid of my'gearbox fault'

Is this of any help:

Fuse 67 AND 75 in the glovebox, a new Battery and disconnecting the auxiliary sounder under the N/side wheel arch have got rid of the 'gearbox fault'

The gearbox limphome mode means it goes in 3rd or Reverse. So starting forward is like badly slipping a clutch on a manual.
The fuses kept blowing until I disconnected the sounder. Just take out the 2 Torx screws, you can bend the liner a bit and get at it (and the Fog lamp)
All been there glad you sorted it out in the end.
