getting fed up now

Had gearbox trouble for last few weeks...I bought the car with a noisy autobox...the car then decided not to go into gear...new torque convertor needed....had this bought and fitted...then today had the box serviced....oil and filter change...car was fine going home from garage and to work this evening....when I finished work the car wouldn't go into reverse..... It did after a couple of attempts....driving home the box wouldn't change gear...instead it would rev before clunking into gear...struggling to go up hill....I've already put 400 into the car and can't afford to spend any more....the car is a 2000 3.0 v6 auto.......

get the garage to check the fluid level.
sounds familiar!!

have you got any fault codes!!
May be a stretched shifter cable. Fairly common on the 5R55N-era cars.
Not had it checked for fault codes yet... And I don't have the equipment to do it...

treat yourself to a mongoose clone http://www.obd2tool.com/goods-497-JLR+Mangoose+123.html dont use the programme because it will not work but you will be able to use v.1.30 with IDS
Not trying to be awkward, however all the full stops make your post difficult to read, and if you don't have the correct diagnostic equipment you have two choices;

1) Pay somebody who has to scan the car.

2) Buy the gear and do it yourself.
Deleted, double post.
Get it down to N&S Jaguar 62b Thornes Lane, Wakefield, WF1 5RR, (01924 831140) and get it put on the diagnostic machine.
Ask for Stuart Redhead.

And duck cos he's not a red head! :)
Could it be the wrong fluid.... The mechanic quoted me £40 ltr but only charged me £60 for it.... And now it's slipping like mad.....
phone the mechanic as quickly as possible to find out what fluid they put in because if it the wrong type you will have problems but 40 pounds a litre is very expensive for lifegaurdfluid 6. I just looked on the internet and I can get for 20 pounds a liter.

2000 car, so Ford 5R55N box which uses the common and very cheap Dexron III iirc.
Yes be careful everyone, don't jump to conclusions, make sure which box is in the car first!

Maybe low fluid. It can take several checks to get it right after changing the TC.

.
It is the Ford box.... To be honest I don't have the money or the patience to carry on messing so gonna sell it. Hopefully will get what I paid and cut my losses. Shame it's a nice motor and the wheels are very unusual...
