The steering of my Mk2 has some play. Can anyone advise how to adjust the power steering box if it can be adjusted?

Which steering box have you got. Burman type 1 really early Mk2s or Burman type 2 later Mk2s up to 1967ish or do you have the Adwest Marles Variomatic fitted to the 240 and 340.

Burmans are hard to adjust as they wear and basically have to be rebuilt as far as I am aware. There are no adjustment screws just shims inside that can be added to to tighten up the contact and take out any slack. If you are going to do that you may as well change all the seals whilst you are there.

The Adwest which I have on my 1968 S Type has two adjustment screws to tighten the pivot points of the mechanism. One can be adjusted with the box in place the second can only be adjusted on a RHD car if it is removed first.

Many thanks. It’s a Burman. So not much hope of adjusting. Now I need to find a reliable company to rebuild

Where abouts are you John as someone might have a local company close to you that can rebuild the box for you. I can suggest ICS Steering Specialist, Birmingham England

http://www.ics-steeringspecialist.co.uk who are one of the suppliers recommended by members of the S Type Jaguar forum. Not used them myself and no good to you if you are in the USA or Australia.

Hi I still have the same problem with my power steering box have tried loads of companies but none seem to either want to or have the spares to rebuild the box. Do you know of any other company that would be able to help Thanks

I have a adjuster on the stype. I had a noise coming from the steering wheel. Check the steering wheel fluid level. If there is more space for liquid, there is a additive you can buy to adjust the the pressure by adding the fluid which comes in a small bottle. My jaguar specialist did this and it worked a treat
