Is an 08 Jaguar 3.0 V6 compatible with a Ford Duratec 3.0 V6?

The AJV6 is based around the Ford AJ30 engine but is actually not the same. Major differences are the fuel injection system, Jaguar designed twin cam cylinder heads with 4 valves per cylinder, mechanical bucket (DAMB) tappets, variable valve timing and several other Jaguar additives which improved performance quite significantly from the Ford.
I don't know if the Ford version of the engine can be fitted into the body of the X-Type, but even if it could you would have problems with the ECU due to the lack of sensors fitted to the Jaguar AJV6 version.
What I would say is that the Jaguar version of the engine produces a lot more power and you would definitely feel the difference. The engine is a really strong unit in the Jaguar and is pretty bullet proof, so your problem is a bit of a strange one and suggest either overheating, lack of lubrication or fuel/air mixture problem.
I wouldn't write off the idea of getting a replacement engine, there are quite a few out there, although there will be some new programming required for the ECU, as far as I know.
Wishing you luck.
