Is that hard to install an Aftermarket car stereo?

Hello,

I made this same question at Reddit and someone suggested me to come here. This is the deal fellow jaguar-owners:

The specialist which has always fixed and upgraded my car audio in the cars I have owned told me that it was nearly impossible to make anything to my 2002 X-type. His argument was that it was very complicated and that installing an aftermarket car stereo (double din one) could mess with the computer and settings. He said he wouldn't advice me to change the original one. The thing is the original one doesn't have an aux input and I'm very used to have my cell phone connected to my car (in previous cars) via bluetooth for calls and music streaming. Let alone that, the volume knob in the car stereo doesn't work, it is the one that has a cassette deck btw.

I even asked him If we could take advantage of the CD magazine it has and somehow convert it to aux in. He said it was not possible. So, I thought to ask around to make sure that info was accurate but I have seen in the posts on this forum that some people has changed the stereo with no big issues and some, if I recall properly, even managed to retain steering wheel controls.

As I said at reddit, I'm a new Jaguar owner, in love with my car hoping some of you could guide me in the correct direction. Any comment will be appreciated.

This is my first post here, I hope not to be breaking any rule.

Hi and welcome to the forum. There are quite a few posts on here covering the audio change.

Welcome, your audio-tech is basically telling you he doesn't know how to install a stereo system in a Jaguar. I suggest you source another tech to get it done properly. Upgrading the audio system in the X-Type is no more difficult than other automobiles with integrated navigation systems --even less difficult if you have the standard system.

Thanks for this, It's what I thought. I really appreciate your reply!
You're quite welcome. Have a look at the Technology Suite for more information on stereo upgrades - http://www.jaguarforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58
