My boyfriend purchased this at a local antique shop. We tried researching it, but can't find any information or anything like it online. We are wondering if this is an authentic jaguar hood ornament and from what model and year. If any one has any knowledge about this peice please reply. Thanks so much!
It was described as a jaguar hood ornament. Did people have hood ornaments custom made? We have no idea how old this might be or what the value is either.
Any ideas on where to look for more information on something like this? We thought maybe it was just from a very old model jaguar, but once we tried looking it up we found nothing similar anywhere. I figured a jaguar forum would be the best place to find people who really know there stuff and would be able to tell me if this was authentic. Your replies are greatly appreciated. And I thank you all for your time.
not much help to you debedio81, but this apparently is a ' Desmo' leaper as fitted to ( by some owners) to the radiators of the early SS car's, this one claims to be from an SS100
the mascot in the op has an art deco look to it, in which case it may well be a bespoke / one off piece ,if that is the case , then finding out anything more about it may prove impossible , unless of course you can find a serial number or makers mark on it somewhere
Its the same on both sides and the dimensions are 5 inches head to tail and the base is 2 inches. It weighs about 1pound 5 ounces. The only mark on it is a 6 imprinted on the back inside of the base.
My1stxtype I didn't quite understand your post. Would you mind explaining it to me. I'm kinda clueless about foreign cars. I live in the US. Lol Although there are jaguar enthusiasts here I don't know any personally. This is all new to me. Thanks.
I thought it may be some kind of door knocker, but clearly it is not.
Maybe some kind of miniature gargoyle. That could ornament a Jaguar hood, but equally could ornament something totally different.
I would say it has nothing to do with any motor vehicle. This looks to me like a bookcase ornament or something similar. More furniture than bonnet ornament definitely
It was found in a garage according to the antique dealer. I don't believe she deliberately tried to mislead us. She is a fair dealer. It would be nice to know what this truly is though. Again all your responses and thoughts are appreciated thank you.
One thing I am sure of is that it is not a hood ornament, it would flap about on the canvass. It could be a bonnet ornament. but I don't think it has anything to do with a car. Furniture more likely.
Looks more like an old jinn, not sure of the spelling, symbol to me. Nasty creatures. Look up the origins of a Genie, as in Genie of the lamp. The Walt Disney sort is a distortion of a very old Islamic tale.
