Jaguar X Type Diesel Cutting Out When Turning Right. Loss of power Glow Plug Light

Hi All,

My first post here so please be gentle.... I have been lurking in the shadows for a while now looking at the advice offered but I can't seem to find the answer. Hopefully someone will be able to help.

I have a 2005 X Type Estate 2.0 Diesel. Lovely car apart from the fact it keeps cutting out and/or losing power when turning right. This normally only happens when I turn right at speed or if the road is exceptionally bumpy.

The glow plug and engine warning lights flash when the car loses power but then immediately go off again if it doesn't stall, car then runs fine until inevitably it happens again. No error codes are stored.

I have tried all the suggestions on other threads that I can find including:
replacing Fuel Filter
Cleaning EGR Valve
Checking Wiring for MAF - the wiring had perished in one section, this has now been repaired and the car is noticeably better
Replaced various sensors (cam position sensor etc...)

Prior to the repair to the MAF wiring the car would lose power or cut out every time you would turn right making me think it was an electrical problem causing it to short somewhere due to the engine moving. Once the wiring was repaired the car was fine for a couple of days until the problem reared it ugly head once again, albeit not as persistent...

Any help would be highly appreciated as I really am at my wits end with this car

Thank you in advance

I cant think of any reason why this should happen only when turning right (or bumpy), except that it must be some sort of loose connection. Especially if, as you say, the problem was cured temporarily when you repaired the MAF wiring.

I suspect the MAF wiring needs a closer inspection and if the wiring was 'repaired'... it may be a good idea to re-check the repair or even replace if possible.

I think Mr Squirrel is bang on there.

Thanks for the reply Mr Squirrel. Yes your advice seems logical. I shall strip back the rest of the wiring over the weekend and see if there is any further damage. The wiring that has been repaired is definitely not the culprit though as I cleaned the wires and then re-soldered the joint - it had broke at the point where it runs over the injectors.

Is there a way to actually test to see if the wiring in the sensor is ok - I have read previous posts saying that the sensor just unclips but mine is a sealed unit

I personally dont know of such a test but i would suspect there is one. (anybody?)
I cant say that i have heard of a sealed MAF sensor before. They are usually accessable and when exposed, are just a thin wire that can break easily so cleaning them is a delicate operation.
If you suspect the MAF sensor itself to be the issue (plausable, im sure - if the wire is broken, it could be making contact for the most part but moving under heavy cornering) its a fairly cheap part to replace at about £30 iirc.
