Hey folks new to this side of the forums, Came over here from having an X type that was a bit of a problem, it's all in my sig to save repetition.
But just saying hello and starting the thread that should, this time, be full of happy photos, road trip news, and general Little George stuff.

To kick off here it is. Think when it gets it's personal plate on it it will be named by the wife so it's a him. You'll see in a few weeks.
2009 2.7d Sovereign with almost all the extras. Frost blue (JJZ) with Barley inside (SEL). One previous owner. FSH all done at the same jag dealer 5 by the same guy, and only 79K miles when I picked it up. It's failed one MOT in its life on a wiper blade and numberplate light. I will keep that record going.

Loving it already had it since Tuesday and already clocked up almost 7 hundred miles and just passed the 79k mark yesterday. I'll calm down soon. Just cant help it. It's the car I've been looking for since I was in my early 20's I've always had a thing for jags of this shape. 40 years waiting.

Gave it a proper valet inside and a right good polishing but haven't got around to photos yet, so dealer ones will have to do for starters.

Quite true Jim.. however I can also see why it would seem a very difficult/scary proposition to jump from one world to to the other..

Len is, as you say, up to the job without doubt.. I'm sure guidance from here would be more than forthcoming.. (y)

I wouldn't have the faintest idea what to do if I bought that stuff.
At least you know that the parts are available from Jag to rebuild the caliper. That’s not a given these days. Some manufacturers just want you to buy a new one.
Your chosen garage can rebuild or buy a refurbished one.

You can’t really blame the car for a sticking caliper, it’s usually a maintenance issue or perhaps lack of use. If everything is cleaned up regularly and the brake fluid changed to schedule they are usually fine.

The sticking could be either the guide pins, that allow the two halves to squeeze together, or a piston.

I’d hope that the AA would take the caliper off and clean the pins, if so make sure they remove the rubber bushes and check for corrosion behind them, 50/50 this simple job would fix it. It might take 15 minutes.

Can't comment on the maintenance side, only had it 3 and a half months. Lack of use, ha I wish.

Bit of luck when they send some AA gadgy out for a look he can sort it. Hoping they don't just send a guy with a tow truck. AA is useless up here it's all subcontracted and they just want to cart your car to their garage.
Ok enough of the wallowing, watched a few minders take my mind off stuff. It's a car ill get it fixed. Its only money. Cant do it myself. Too weak at the moment and got serious brain fog so wouldn't be able to concentrate in even trying, its dragging my mood down so my apologies for lowering the tone of a normally upbeat thread.
Hasn't had its one and only leave me stranded breakdown yet. I allow every car I have that. Its still got time. Its not autotrader time yet.

One step at a time LG, another waiting game for sure and bound to make things difficult to be optimistic about, but hang on in there as for as bad as the negatives seem at the time going over the past 3 1/2 months, you have worked through them and moved most to pan out in your favour.

It's just all the angst, disappointment, stress and time spent sorting things out that makes things seem so much worse, and can easily overshadow all the good times ... here's hoping your AA person is one of the good 'uns (y);)

LG, I do bu99er all now on motors.
There are significant factors - I get knackered very quickly; there is a workshop (taller) in town that looks after our small fleet and their labour rates are minimal (in one of the poorest areas in Spain the charges are silly and still far lower than we were paying in the UK to an indy in 2005); the workshop, whilst a Peugeot main service centre, will do anything and charge small beer for minor stuff; the cash element of work done is mostly "black" still so only parts attract IVA (VAT), so cash in hand.
We are fortunate to have a simple life and our disposable income far exceeds our normal outgoings.
So, instead of whacking myself out (which I can do easily on the land), I "pagar un hombre", which simply means "pay a man".

Chin up George, it’ll be easily sorted I’m sure. When my old gal (car not wife) needs attention I remind meself that it’s almost 16 years old, at 170k has travelled 70% of the distance to the Moon etc.

Not too bad Len to be fair my caliper locked up solid a few days before the MOT :D  , on a dual carriageway too, with myself not in the best mood at the time I just nailed the throttle home ;)

As said brake fluid which sits in the caliper if the system isn't flushed periodically turns rancid and causes corrosion issues.

That or the dust boot rots and falls off allowing the piston to pick up shite and causes issues there, or maybe a combo of both..

I'm sure it's just teething problems..

Hang on in there LG. You so obviously love the car (when its working) so get it sorted and enjoy it. The BMW you ogle on Autotrader will no doubt have its own problems, especially if its of similar age. The grass isnt always greener on the other side. We just convince ourselves that it is.
Raffles has had one or two problems. The CD changer keeps jamming, maybe it doesnt like my music, which is annoying and I've had a few spurious warning lights on when theres been no fault. Also, get this for a major incident, when The Badger was thrashing about trying to find the door handle to get out she tried to use the ashtray! Its now open all the time and wont stay shut.
Could your problem possibly be a buckled wheel rather than the caliper, maybe from your fence incident? Even if it is the caliper, or something else, could you get it fixed as part of your claim?
Good luck with it mate.

sense spoken there.
Well been on the phone got it booked in for wednesday. Ill phone AA really early wednesday and get it towed in
Yeah I really did love the car. After the wire I emotionally dethatched and now like it as a very pretty mode of transport.
Just had flashbacks of bic and the continual hassle and expense I had. I really cant go through that again. Cant afford it to be honest. especially now I'm making payments.

Did think of the wheel but did over a 1000 miles since that fence so discounted that one, can see by the brake dust and the brake thats stuck fast on the disk got to be a calliper.
When I get it all fixed which I will have to cos I'm financially tied to it (unlike bic). I had a brief look I know its going to cost a kidney, calliper, pads both sides, they are almost gone on the locked on side, and course they'll want to put disks on. Take a car in your giving them a free for all feeding frenzy and seeing it wont move I'm pretty stuffed for shopping about once its dropped off.

This bill however large or small will be added to the list for the claim going to try but still coming off my card first thats what hurts only just got it down and was looking forward to getting my aicon back.

The BMW never gave me a days hassle in 18 months until the airbag electrics went, which took me a couple of months to work out and fix all it really cost me was tyres, which were worn when i got it. 2 years till it had a 1000 quid mot fail on suspension when i got rid of it. The money I've spent on jags in the past year over 3000 so far including the loss i made trading in bic is quite substantial. (not counting buying this one) really wondering if I should have just paid the grand and kept it.
Mrs LG is really not jag impressed anymore.

If I was you I’d read through @Ashanti ’s thread and get an idea of some preventative maintenance jobs you can do to avoid issues in the future.
Things like the earth studs.

14 year old complex luxury cars are not bastions of reliability, no matter which brand. That’s what low mileage Toyotas are for.

I'll find the 3 things and sort that so theres a reason for this shit storm. I'm in a mood I haven't been in for many a year. Not mildly miffed as cars make me I'm absolutely raging, Its a good job my cars broken.
Theres something to be said for getting all your bad luck over in one go. Its got to change, buy a lottery ticket!
