Son is house sitting for a week looking after the parrot and emptying my fridge. Tyres at the right pressure, all fluids checked.
This is it. After the long drive back that was fun and driving around building trust in the old boy. (Yep its a dude he talks to me saying "CD changer mix on" in a nice BBC voice) This time me and Mrs LG are off on a roadtrip. This is what I wanted the big ol XJ for. The first of many this year.
Yep I picked the right weather. Didn't know that last year, when I booked all this, that it wouldn't be spring like is was meant to be. I'll try to get some photos but odds on the car will be covered in salt so have to forgive that it's going to be inevitably a bit grubby.

Sidenote for those who followed the bic thread. She's forgotten about the BMW and the red one now. "Wow this car is so smooth, I can't feel a bump or anything back here, best one yet" Still sits in the back.
Have a great trip - you deserve it :)

Hey folks new to this side of the forums, Came over here from having an X type that was a bit of a problem, it's all in my sig to save repetition.
But just saying hello and starting the thread that should, this time, be full of happy photos, road trip news, and general Little George stuff.

To kick off here it is. Think when it gets it's personal plate on it it will be named by the wife so it's a him. You'll see in a few weeks.
2009 2.7d Sovereign with almost all the extras. Frost blue (JJZ) with Barley inside (SEL). One previous owner. FSH all done at the same jag dealer 5 by the same guy, and only 79K miles when I picked it up. It's failed one MOT in its life on a wiper blade and never had an advisory. I will keep that record going.

Loving it already had it since Tuesday and already clocked up almost 9 hundred miles and just passed the 80k mark yesterday. I'll calm down soon. Just cant help it. It's the car I've been looking for since I was in my early 20's I've always had a thing for jags of this shape. 40 years waiting.

Gave it a proper valet inside and a right good polishing but haven't got around to photos yet, so dealer ones will have to do for starters.

Happy trails LG, get those miles in and just enjoy the waftiness, probably a look or two as well

Enjoy

I do love a cherished plate and these are brilliant!

If you are anything like me, you will be checking the mail and watching out for the postie every morning, even though they come every afternoon and it can take a couple of months for the logbook to arrive ... crazy is as crazy does o_O

Quicker way to give you an idea of when it will arrive is to check when the V5C was last issued which is at the end of the 'vehicle details' on the gov.uk website, just in case you (or others) didn't know or going prematurely grey ;)

Pretty much got me nailed in that picture, Bald, pointy nose, silly hat and round. Yep thats me with glasses. :)
This is going to be a long ol wait for the V5, still I'll side track myself with more roadtrips or polish, or leather balm or.... I'll think of something.

There’s a spare 12v in the overhead console if you don’t have the garage door opener. You can even buy cables to plug into it.
Ha Ha, I wish I'd known that when I fitted mine. I hooked into the electric mirror supply, much more fiddly. Most cameras have a USB 5v power supply, so a 12v car to USB charger internals needs to be hidden away too.

Full trip report later with a couple of piccies. Suffice to say I'm seriously in love. It's like driving an armchair connected to a hovercraft with grip.
Got my dashcam fitted and had a good 20 mile ride in the snow and ice, No issues whatsoever.

Won't bore you too much with this. But I'm most likely the most boring person you'll ever meet so there ya go.
The first roadtrip for fun. I know it had a run back from Kent when I bought it but that wasn't just for fun.

Set off at a reasonable time in the afternoon as it was only a short 125 mile run, but with the road works, google map showed me was a 20 mile detour, So? I thought more time in the car. Winner!
Anyhow no packed lunch and water instead of the tradition road trip Irn bru. Wind is OK if you haven't a passenger :) The dog strapped in and off we set.

Had to do a stop on the way I'm used to seeing this but had to snap one with the car for the beauty of it.

Anyway on we pushed, Car drove like a dream I was to be honest still anxious doing the run Yes Ive got AA but the memory of bic was still there.
Not for long though

Finally got myself on the M8, the 70 mph bit, and let the car clear its throat. We're off, it wafted along, Mrs LG was at speed in the car for the first time just talking to me normally, no need to raise her voice she commented on the glide and the fact that its the smoothest car she'd ever been in, briefly mentioned the BMW was no where near this and made herself comfortable.

Even the dog found the ride relaxing.

So road works were a bit more involved than was first thought, not fussed auto is the way to go. Sat nav tried to take me down some silly dodgy one track roads. I'm used to mine but didnt want to take this hulking great beast into the unknown so I stuck to the main and ignored the frequent make a U turn from the sat nav.

Finally made it.

So went out to get the dashcam fitted a few days later.
It snowed. Alot. I was a bit nervous first time out in the lying snow with the thing rear wheel drive and all.
That didn't last long.
It gripped the road without a slide, skid or slip. Confidence built off I went to Halfords yes, the 20 mile detour way around. Found myself at a filming location for Outlander, but didn't stop for pictures, dashcam to get fitted
Not too shabby looking and the guy fitted it well. Actually can't see it from my seat.

Anyway few days of scoffing Chopstix noodles, drinking copious amounts of beer, and having the obligatory full Scottish every day I put on a stone. Hell, who cares? The cars got air suspension.

So fuel wise. I brimmed it worked out at 34mpg on a combined motorway and urban run.
Not bad at all.
Lovely trip. great time. Actually looked forward to the drive home and thoroughly enjoyed that too.
What a car. By far the best I have ever owned.

Superb LG, sounds and looks like a great run out and the car put a smile on your face, more wafting to come no doubt.

Positive comments from mrs LG too, all good all round

Dashcam looks well fitted

Nice one George 👍 Glad that you’re finally enjoying Jag life. If the Wife and dog are content then that’s all positive!
Our dog is a ‘slightly’ larger scale fat goofy Labrador: when he’s in the car, his ar$e is touching one back door, his nose the other…..

Just after I did the post last night. Mrs LG said fancy a curry, I thought it was the holiday withdrawals, we did push the boat out more than usual. Curry house is 50 mile round trip. Got back she said didn't really want that just wanted a ride in the car. Could have told me that I would have just did a run for fun and saved 50 quid, I enjoyed it though. Be my last one for a while. I'll be living on chicken stew for a month to drop this extra stone quickly.
And as it's a nice day today going to give the inside and boot a little spruce up. Pointless doing the outside yet grim weather week ahead, Inside don't really need it but It's Sunday and I always said If I ever got one Sundays are for polishing the jag.

Mentioned me going on stew to her "Ohh good we've got to go shopping. When we going? Want a ride in the car." She likes this one. Glad about that. I'll be paying for it for a while.

Dashcam looks well fitted
Halfords in Ayr Trading Estate, guy called Bryan did it in about 45 minutes, got a humour too. I said "I've left the handbook in the glovebox save you looking for fuses, They are listed in there." He looked me right in the eye with a straight face and said "No it's OK I'll just wire it straight onto the battery. Easy job." Saw my face and burst out laughing.

Four weeks today I've had this car already and no knee pain driving it over the thousand miles since I've had it. Got to love an auto. Wow thats a lot. I noticed my diesel receipts on my card mounted a bit. But that's not getting in the way. Got 11 thousand miles left on my insurance till June so Ill make sure I put at least 20k allowance on there for next year.

But the honeymoon period is over. No there's nothing wrong with it. By now with bic I was 240 quid in and suspected a driveshaft was coming. I'm talking about a photo I uploaded showing ISOfix to a fellow member. I noticed I didn't do a stellar job cleaning the seats. Not having any of that half a$$ed cleaning. So time to get to work. As usual no pictures until I've finished but the deep clean has begun. This will take a while, weather is sporadic so I'll do bits as and when.

I broke out the Maguire's plastic restorer and did the black trim by the tread plates and all the black plastic in the footwells and the inside of the doors when they are open. Gave it a good buffing. Did the switch parts in the doors and the ashtrays that all look like new again, No smoking in this puppy from me. Did the small black plastic bit around the gear selector and vent and switch bit at the back of the centre console, and while I had the stuff on a cloth went into the boot and did all the plastic in there. Even the often forgotten light surrounds and struts. Not forgetting that little plastic puller that lifts the boot carpet to get to the spare wheel.
The engine bay was still absolutely pristine. Even the hoses are coated in some rubber shine so nothing to do in there so I just shut the lid again.
I saw a small scuff on the drivers seat. I'll deal with that soon enough, I still have some paint left over from when I did the red one luckily it's the same interior code.

One picture to upload though. Ordered some made to measure car mats that arrived while I was on holiday. Put them in and nope bloke who measured these must have been drunk. They were well out. I got a mail this morning from the company before I had a chance to moan and start a return. Telling me that the measurements were wrong and a replacement set is on its way. So not so bad.

Course I had to go out and get some cotton buds on a stick to do the vent slats but got side tracked bought another curry and chocolate and totally forgot them. Never mind gives me a reason for another trip out tomorrow.

See that grubby plastic along the side. That's all deep black and shiny like new again. :)

JohnW here George: just saying: STILL no Jaguar envy. None at all. No Sir. Absolutely not. No. >sob< 🥺
Seriously, really glad all is going well for you in the (mostly) wonderful world of Jaguars. If I didn’t think my faithful old X would throw a tantrum I’d seriously go overdrawn and go looking at XJ’s. Retirement is nice but the lack of regular monthly wedge not so much. I firmly believe old X Types KNOW if you look at other cars: a bit like Missis W goes when I silently lust at Nicole Kidman in a film. In my defence, Nicole could have me if she played her cards right…. I’d take my chances with Missis W and the carving knife. But then again…
We are currently considering hiring a camper van and doing a GB tour with our fat Labrador: we love Scotland so stand by for a knock on the door George. 😜
