Be careful about which valve caps you use. Differential metal corrosion can weld them on to TPMS sensors.
It can weld them onto standard valves too. Good old plastic is fine :)

Unfortunately, while cleaning I also found a major problem. I'm trying to figure out what to do about it. Might ring the garage I got it from, as I reckon I've got reasonable grounds to reject the car. It's a shame because I really like it, and it's an easy fix, but I don't know if there's any coming back from this.

See for yourself, but be prepared, it's awful.

Kia valve caps. The horror.
Lol what ever was someone thinking?

Seriously though and as mentioned, these are terrible for welding themselves to the valve and causing all sorts of trouble.

I see you're replacing with std plastic ones anyway, good call

I'm sure I read that tpms sensors should have a grey plastic cap fitted. Other types, especially metal, can affect the sensors. Happy to be wrong of course.
Yep, my TPMS sensors have the grey cap. Look better with the metal stalk too.

Mine are black plastic, kids pinched the grey ones!
So you were forced to use the ones from your old Raleigh Chopper.

It seems almost a third of my ownership thread is dedicated to posts about valve caps. Sadly, this isn't another valve cap post.

I had a delivery today. A good condition, used nearside mirror cap and a can of Ultimate Black. I've already got some 2k clear. More de-chavving planned for this weekend.

In other news, the big list o'stuff to do continues to grow. Amongst many other minor issues, it's got an annoying wobble when braking at speed. Pedal seems OK but you can see it in the steering wheel. It was mentioned as something to check in one of the previous owner's invoices. It's got brand new discs up front that I reckon were an attempt at a fix. Clearly it didn't work.

The next culprit is bushes. My money is on the banana arm bushes as these seem to be the most common point of failure. I'm tempted to go powerflex on them, but looks like only the large inner bush is available. Do the smaller, outer bushes fail regularly too? Hopefully I'll get a wheel off at the weekend and investigate.

From valve caps to mirrror caps Matt.

That'll be a nice little mod / fix

Banana arms likely cause as you say, wonder if they've been done before, or original at that mileage?

You are lucky. Just wait until the locals get around to discussing the mating habits of sheep in the Congo. Despite my best efforts some of these folk have no idea how to stay on topic.

The TPMS sensors come with grey caps, but many knuckle dragger tyre places will manage to lose them and fit standard black ones. These also work fine with TPMS. Doubt caps would impact TPMS anyway, as the transponder is inside a bloody great metal wheel, LOL.

I did have some Jag caps, that she acquired at a stupidly low price due to some offer. I've either mislaid them, been pinched, or said knuckle draggers threw them away, as mine sports 4 black caps now...
