My 2013 XJL Portfolio Arrived.

Well I finally got the car today, very late home as the dealer thought I was picking it up tomorrow ☹.
I had to wait for it to get back from the valet/detailer. Must say it was worth the 5 hour delay, however I did miss the Mercedes, the distronic cruise control is one of the best on the market.
That said I'm very happy with the Jag, it does feel quite firm over a roads but nice and smooth on the motorway.
I guess the sporty 20" and low profile tyres has a price over comfort, however the drivers seat is certainly better than the Mercedes (in my opinion).
Mrs Boz found the Jag very (nice) although not overjoyed, it's just a big car to Mrs Boz, she likes the colour though 👍
Now that I have managed to get it into the garage I have several jobs to do before I can play with the Jag.
Namely converting the son a horsebox into a pizza stall/mobile (I know 😂 but that's what he wants)
Mrs B has several jobs in the garden, it's a small price to pay, so update sometime soon.
I will get some pictures if I can manage to post them, I have just sold a couple of my classic cars, 1967 Wolseley 6/110, and a 1978 Mg Midget, along with a 1954 Ferguson T20.
If anyone is interested in the Wolseley 6/110 I have posted a rebuild blog on YouTube, the link is here.

Enjoy, Boz.

Well picked the car up this afternoon after leaving it at 8.30 this morning.
Gearbox service. £350
Timing belt and tensioner assembly. £290
Differential oil change. £65
Engine oil and filter change. £110 (discount)
4 hours labour.
Total £815
Vat. £163
Total £978. £25 discount on oil change 👍
Very happy with cost and service, highly recommend.
Can I assume that you used 'The Jag Specialist' in Doncaster for your work?

I will be needing my Belts changed soon so I am starting to look around.

Cheers

I also need the belts replacing on my RRS2 so I might ask them about that as well.

Thanks.

Hi Jamie, would love to help, you've helped so many others, but don't know of anyone I could recommend close to you.

The best bet is Chris at the Jagspecialist as Doncaster, 2 hours away, but well worth the trip, even you may agree if you use them.

I've travelled down from Glasgow, about 5 hours each way thereabouts and waited on the works being done, had a great job done and saved a packet, as he's very reasonable.

Some have came from London, and farther afield, staying overnight if a big job, had a good job done and again, saved a small fortune. He's very well regarded in the Jag community too.

Gearbox service and belts won't be that cheap, but you'll likely have the best price there.

Tell him you've been recommended by Jaguarforums etc if you do use him, he'll look after you.

Hope it helps (y)

Jim

Cambelt change £290
They have a very comfortable waiting area with a TV, coffee maker, plenty of magazines (Jag of course).
You will obviously have to book.
Allow about 4 hours, they have to wait for your engine and box to cool down before starting work,
Mine on the lift taken from the waiting room, Boz.

Try Scott Jackson www.ss-specialists.co.uk
They are Jag/Landrover experts based in Stony Stratford. Not used them myself but they have great reviews.

Thanks for the tip, I'd found them (and others) on searches, but was kinda after personal recommendations, not hearsay reviews which are known to be easily manipulated.

I would drive up to Doncaster, there are proven reviews both on this forum and personal reviews of people travelling from way down south to the Jag specialist Doncaster.
There was a chap who had driven up from Exeter when I was there on Wednesday.

100% there's a guy that travels over regularly from France!

You could try Jagcare in Portsmouth as they are closer than Doncaster or there is EE in Milton Keynes.

Do we have any personal recommendations?

Not sure Mac_Doctor would recommend Jagcare this week!

I am beginning to lose faith in them (S&C Motors, now), to be honest. Their AdBlue adventure has left me speechless. I still haven't calmed down enough to go back and talk to them.
I use Nene Jag Specialists in Peterborough. Its quite a small garage and he's always really busy. It probably isnt the cheapest but its where I had my XF serviced and its where Raffles will be going.

I have used E & E a number of times and can highly recommend them, reasoanably priced, knowledgable and most importantly honest, they don't tell you something needs doing just to line their pocket. When I had an RP issue they identified it as a sticky turbo valve, they just removed, cleaned and replaced it for £190 all in, plus I got a loan car, other places were no where near as knowledgable and wanted to charge a hell of a lot more. When I have been in with the XF for services, they might say something like "your bushes are starting to get a little loose, you might want to consider changing them on your next service/visit" but no pressure to do so by any means.

Well tomorrow is my first outing in the car since purchase 1 month ago, apart from the run to Doncaster for the service etc.
Myself and Mrs Boz are going to Hardwick Hall again (5 times) I don't mind because it's a lovely day out at a great national trust house.
The car is gleaming as I have polished it twice while sitting in the garage, hopefully I will get some pictures, Boz.

Hope you have a great run and enjoy your day out, plenty of pics of the car in nice surroundings are a must (y)

Have a great, relaxing day out.

I just asked Mrs TheBoy when we went to Hardwick Hall, and by working out what car we had, came to the conclusion it was 25yrs ago!!
