Hi, I'm Jim from Margate.

After the demise of my old XJ6 (XJ40) a few years ago I am finally re-joining Jaguar and am picking up a 1999 S-Type tomorrow. It will be fun remembering how to keep my left leg still as it's been a while since I've driven an auto :-D.

I'm a little excited and nervous at the same time. The last time I drove an automatic I got to the end of the first road and naturally wen't for the clutch to change down, unfortunately the nearest thing to the clutch was the brake pedal which I planted my foot on quite heavily. Thankfully there was nothing behind me at the time :-?. After a week of driving it I had a day of stalling my manual so will have to borrow the odd car to keep in touch with manuals.

Hi Jim,
.
Welcome back to Jaguar ownership, the website and forum.
I have owned my 04 X350 since last November and it's brilliant.

Everyone here is friendly and helpful and some of the usernames here ( like TeapotTony and PigletJohn ) make me smile.

It was an amazing journey. I seem to have gotten used to an automatic very quickly (wonder how I'd manage in a manual now, will have to borrow mums car and find out :D).

For an 18 year old car it's in very good condition, I've started a thread for it in the S-Type section over here: http://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=104565
I know what you mean Jim - mine all OK taxed , insured etc but private plates still waiting for V5 return to make road legal - can't wait, but it's taking a lot of cleaning - moss on window fames etc as it was standing since August when the chap died. I bought it off his widow ( wifes friend), more to help than anything, but, once I drove it home I fell in love - sad aren't I ? a 67 year old kid with a new toy. My wife says its got me away from the chair. Anyway, when its sorted I 'll post some pictures. Best of luck
David
Cleaning is part of the fun of owning a nice car. Anything that I've valued as interesting has been kept thoroughly clean, whereas the more boring cars (like the Peugeot 307 SW I sold last week) just don't catch my attention enough.

I wouldn't say you're sad, I'm 31 and have no intention of growing out of this kind of toy.

I was very sad to see my old 5th gen Celica go last year due to having to downsize to one car, the S-Type seems to cover fun car, proud car and family car very well and has helped ease the pain. Although at 6'3" the Celica was an interesting car to get into.

Here it is alongside my then family car, the Accord tourer.

I can equate to that I had a Audi TT quattro but had to get rid of it due to struggling in and out, but I already feel fine towards Jag. Guess its in my blood, for many years my Dad had a 3.8s and I , in a mad moment at 19 bought a Mk 7 - sold immediately I found out runnning costs! Any advice on cleaning products would be appreciated I have always used Autoglym but probably better out there now Cheers David ps photos all look great - love Celica colour
I think a lot of people tend to shy away from Autoglym these days, but I've always had good results with their products, I like their 'Super resin polish' which is mildly abrasive so not something you want to use often, but it gives a good smooth surface for waxing to a mirror finish. As for wax, I tend to use Simoniz 'Original wax'. It's a bit of a workout to use, but it will buff to a mirror finish. If you do use it though, it's best to wax a small section at a time as if it dries on you're in for a real workout to buff it off.
Poorboys nattys paste!!

you can apply it in direct sunlight and it comes off real easy!!!

expensive though £15 but lasts forever!!
Thanks guys
David
