Well, I've been in possession of mine for nearly 2 hours now, so I thought it was about time this gallery had some content.

Thanks for the good wishes. Graham - yes, the last photo was taken next to Eastbury barn.

First impressions (after about 250 miles so far) - generally very happy, the extra size is soon forgotten and the car is generally very responsive and precise. The firm low-speed ride is noticeable even on 18in wheels but not uncomfortable - larger bumps are absorbed well and road and suspension noise is well isolated. I haven't noticed a lack of performance compared to the S which I test-drove, the gearbox seems well matched to the engine and it is very refined. The "basic" sound system sounds pretty good to me, and the optional Xenon lights are superb - though the cornering lamps seem to be exactly aligned with the door pillars for me!

I did notice that around dawn/dusk, the speedo can be difficult to read due to the backlight - and I noticed this before I read Nigel Thorley's identical comment in this month's JEC magazine! I have just about got used to not having to remove a key when leaving the car, and I have almost stopped knocking the gearbox paddles by mistake when negotiating sharp corners. I am glad I specified the 10-way seats as the lumbar support is useful - there is not masses of side support but they are OK. Finally I set the alarm off a couple of times, if you set "passive arming" it does just that - enables the perimeter alarm after a set time but doesn't lock the car. I am used to the VW approach where the car is locked if you don't open a door within a set time - fortunately you can set the XF to do that instead, which seems much more sensible.

So all in all, very happy so far, it is very relaxing whether you are stuck behind a tractor at 20mph, sweeping across the downs on a fast B-road or mixing it with motorway traffic.

I must say something about the XF.

With the wheel size that this car has got the car looks like a mondeo.

I have seen the XF with larger wheels, (not XFR) and it TRANSFORMS the car.

Never have I seen such a transformation through merely putting larger wheels on it.

SORT IT OUT
