New XF owner, just saying hello.

Hello all
I've just taken delivery of a new (to me) XF after a recent disaserous performance with an XJ (See X350 section for details), I really hope this car lives up to expectations better than the XJ and although the XJ had been my dream car for many years I'd say so far I'm much better suited to the XF, it feels better on the road (less isolated) and just feels more modern inside and out. It's a late 2010 3L Diesel Premium Luxury S with a couple of extras such a blind spot and 440W HiFi with portable audio. I'll be busy reading though the manual and this forum to make sure I'm getting the best from all the toys so don't be surprised if a few stupid questions pop up any time soon. I'll get some photo's up when I can.

Welcome GDCobra to the XF hope you have better luck than the XJ.Had mine just over a month now and love it.Some people on here dont think the XF is a proper jag but I find more people looking at me in mine and I do like that.
Welcome & enjoy!
Good to see you have sorted yourself another car. Hope you got it from another dealer.
Hi Dave,
Yes I've gone to another main dealer, although this time much closer to home. I know this didn't help me get a good car last time but I think I'd have had much more difficulty getting a refund from a non-franchised dealer and none at all if I'd bought privately.
Welcome mate! I hope you enjoy your new toy
Cobras and Jags - must be catching.

(although I just sold the Cobra!)

Thanks MXS, I hope I do too, so far so good!

Hi Wilf,
I guess any petrol head (or Diesel head) would like both cars. I still have the Cobra but it hasn't seen the light of day for a couple of years as I find myself with too many toys and not enough time to use them.
A quite understandable state of affairs, a man can never have enough tools or toys.
Very true Wilf but he can have too little time which is my problem just now!
You are singing to the choir there - business seems to take over totally sometimes.

Really, why would it not be a proper Jag. Is that because it is better in the handling and performance areas than the XJ is?

I don't understand what the criteria is for a 'proper' Jag?
The only candidate for "not a proper Jag" is the X-type, which shares some DNA with the Mondeo. But I know which of the two I'd prefer! (Actually neither while I've got my XKR! :) )
The X Type shares approx. 20% of it's parts with the Mondeo, as far as I recall.
I like the fact that the X type was an "affordable" Jaguar even though I still had to purchase mine used (approx 2 years old).
To afford an XF, which I consider to be a "proper" jag, i.e. it is made by Jaguar in the UK, i had to wait 5 years and get one that is nearly four years old.

But it drives and looks brilliantly as far as I am concerend and it gets admiring looks when out and about. That is a "proper" Jag in my book.
Yeah, designed and built by Jag - how much more "proper" can it be? ;)

I would like to associate myself with all of your comments!

My Jag history goes:

X Type
S Type
XF

I also had to buy a 4 year old but absobloodylutely love it.
