Greetings

I've been having an absolute nightmare trying to rectify an issue with P0171 & P0174 (lean banks 1+2) fault codes. This is a list of actions I've taken to try clear the issues:

  • 2x new MAF sensors
  • Smoke test on vacuum lines to inlet manifold
  • 2x new upper O2 sensors
  • Full Jaguar diagnostic (they are unable to find the cause of the issue)

I also have the following readings from my OBD2 tool:

  • LTFT1+2 are averaging +15 to +18 (this is far too high, indicating an air leak or other issue)
  • STFT 1+2 fluctuate between +2 and -2, mostly around 0

Can anyone advise on what the next step should be to diagnose/ resolve the issue?

Many thanks

I don't have the technical knowledge to answer your question, but if you could indicate your location and perhaps the model year, I would expect members to come up with suggestions.

Hi Sacredmatt.
Looking at the attached, personally it would seem unlikely that you would have MAF faults on both banks at the same time, did you change the air filters at the same time? If so are they standard or did you go for the foam type - these can be problematic. That aside I think the Fuel filter and or injection system may be worth looking at as that would seem more likely to affect both banks at the same time.
Hope you sort it soon.

Thanks for the replies

I have a 2007 XKR, 4.2 supercharged. Both air filters have have been changed for original Jaguar ones.

On hot idle, the LTFT's both read 10% (I'm happy with that as it's where it should be). The faults occur when I'm cruising at a steady speed with throttle position between 15-20% and 2000 revs. When at this position, the LTFT's shoot up to much higher values triggering the fault codes. When acceleration is applied, the LTFT values return to normal at 10%-11%. It's only at cruising speeds and this throttle position that this issue occurs.

Thanks in advance.

Matt.

Try the obvious, fuel filter near the tank, fuel pump delivery module, and finally full pump and injectors. Remember you must release the fuel system pressure before working on the high pressure side as it sits at 3.8bar and disconnect the battery regardless. I'd punt on the FPDM.

Did it throw the code after you replaced the MAF sensors? I'm assuming any previous codes were cleared? Anyway it all points to a loss of vacuum or a system leak and theres a lot to look into. From the info you gave I'd assumed that MAF issue was gone and you had a supply pressure problem, get hold of a copy of the service manual (not workshop manual) and have a long read. It'd be interesting to know what effects you notice when driving, do you get fuel smells etc. On my F360 I used to disconnect the battery as the last resort then let the ECU relearn its parameters, but it was a Fiat and as temperamental as heck for fuel trim from time to time.
Of course the obvious answer is avoid 2000rpm, it's why you've got Ds and paddles.......;)

Once the MAF was replaced, all the codes were cleared but then reappeared a few days later. I don't think a hard reset has been carried out so might be worth doing that? I've also had no smell of fuel anywhere and can't find the vacuum leak (smoke tested twice). The LTFT is very erratic at the moment. Some days it's stable at just above 10% and other times it's up to 18%, both when engine hot. It's almost as if there's a faulty connection somewhere.

What was the outcome? How did you finally fix it?
