I have recently inherited a 1985 4.2 XJ6 and am struggling to understand the trim and materials in the car. On the under bonnet identification panel reads;

PAINT: MDE. TRIM: JEF EZ.

I can find the codes and know this equates to a Rhodium Silver exterior and blue interior.

But does anyone know what the EZ means?

I am doing a gentle refurb and it would be helpful to know whats what.

Many thanks.
Brian.

Hey Brian,
I'm pretty sure that

MDE = Argent Silver Thermoplastic Rhodium Metallic
JEF = Isis blue

Have no clean about the EZ reference

Have you tried Jaglovers? They're generally pretty good on some of that stuff...

the 1985 MDE paint code was Rhodium silver but some sites do say that MDE was Argent Silver but i think they are wrong

Thanks Dave and Jim. Really helpful.

The question I have now is whether the seats are leather or not. They are in good condition and look like leather overall but in the centre of the drivers seat squab there is some wear and the surface looks thin and more like plastic. Before attempting a repair it would be good to know. I wondered if the EZ reference was any help here.

Also what is thermoplastic?

This is my first jaguar and I absolutely love it - to the point of obsession in the family's view.

Best wishes

Brian.
