Does anyone know what the Park Assist does in the overhead console? It doesnt appear to do anything.

It is designed to allow you to turn the front sensors on and off. They automatically come on when you put the car in reverse BUT they are not on automatically when moving forward as they would bleep in slow traffic etc. Therefore if you want to use them when moving forward into a space or garage you need to activate them.

Before you go back to the dealer switch them on (the switch will illuminate) and then get someone to stand infront of the car and it should bring up the graphic on the display and indicate full red ahead if they are standing close.

when the switch is illuminated...both front and rear sensors are turned off

while driving..the front sensors are on..but the proximity is different than the rear. While driving through traffic you wont ever hear the front sensors beep...unless you are SUPER close

I can only say how it works in my XJ. Pressing the switch disables the park assist. In normal operation the park assist works at low speeds. So if, for example, a motorbike overtakes when I'm moving slowly in traffic, the park assist beeps front and/or rear.

The park assist switch on the overhead console toggles the function. If assist is off, it turns it on; if it's on it turns it off.
Engaging reverse gear automatically activates front and rear sensing, and the console switch illuminates.
If you are performing a low speed manoevre (e.g. parking) without going into reverse then you need to switch the front sensors on with the console switch.
If you wan't to deactivate sensing when reverse automatically activates it, simply use the switch.
When reversing the touch screen display switches to the rear camera. Touching the screen toggles the display from camera view to the red sensor display, and back again with another touch of the screen.
The front and rear sensors emit different audible bleeps so you know the difference.
