There's no problem leaving it in park provided you hold it on the footbrakes and very gently let it roll until the slack is taken up and the Park pawl can progressively takes the strain. A sudden lunge forward in Park could snap the pawl.

Ok Richard, thanks for that. Yeah I've been looking up example pawl mechanisms and can see that makes sense. I noticed they do vary in 'sturdyness'

 

It might be worth trying a battery charge and disconnect to reset the parkbrake.
The modules and the actuators can fail. The module is much cheaper and easier to swap.
A decent scanner may see the associated code but usually it’s a guess as to which part is at fault.

 

Tried the battery thing after a bit of googling, but unfortunately did not work. I've found a specialist quite near me so will get it booked in.
In the meantime I've found a way to park across my drive so taking the pressure off the pawl, so feeling less anxious about that now. And using a proper chock now for security instead of a couple of bricks 😄.
The car drives great - inevitably there's going to be niggles.

 

Just for inf - local jaguar specialist identified the motor as the problem. They got a second hand one and fitted at a very reasonable price, considering what I'd seen when researching.
Parking brake now working and no annoying flashing messages!

 

What did they charge for changing the motor ? Being nosey 😃

 

Garage sourced a second hand one, was around 160 I think...
