Passenger Air Bag Off

Only just noticed a very small message screen just to the rear of the overhead lights (near interior mirror). After starting the engine it shows very briefly "passenger air bag off". I have looked in the user manual but cannot find any reference to disabling or enabling the airbag concerned.
Has anyone any ideas please?

I'm pretty sure you have to go to the dealer to switch the passenger airbag off permanently, such as if you want to put a baby seat in the front.

But I think it might have a fail safe as well, if you lean forward and are too close to the dash, it may temporarily disable the airbag for safety reason.

The message by the overhead lights is a start up message, like the oil light etc. coming on with ignition.
