It's a common fault caused by the motors in the lock failing. Plenty of threads on here about it. You can buy new motors or a complete lock on ebay and they are not that expensive. I've changed three of my locks with after market locks bought on ebay and had no issues. Average cost is around £40 depending on which door. Jaguar originals are now around £120 ? There are also some "How to " vids on you tube .
A couple of tips if you change your own.1, Wind the window down about an inch before you start to take the tension off of the regulator cables. 2, Lube all ca les and lock pivots with some silicone oil this repels any water and takes some of the strain off of the motors.

It's also a common fault now on many other makes of car as a lot of locks are very similar design .
