Pedestrian warning message.

221 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Marco Polo
I get an intermittent check pedestrian system message with a red triangle, but have no codes.
The car drives as normal and I have checked as best I can under the bonnet and cannot see anything which would cause this.
Any ideas guys, got me stumped....
Cheers,

Arty

Strange you have no codes Arty. Your problem will most likely be one of the 2 impact sensors at the front of the car. If the problem is intermittent this may be why you’re not seeing any codes.
They are fairly straightforward to change or even quicker at the garage.
Thanks for the quick reply Jim.
Is there a way to differentiate between the two?
Resistance check, if so does anyone know the resistive values, or will it be an open circuit or short?
Many thanks,
Arty

On my code reader, it clearly told me which one was defective. Perhaps check the live data to see the resistance values change as it goes into ‘fault’.
It can also be a symptom of a dying battery, go to Halfords etc and get it checked, or put the battery on charge. You might also start to get other warning signs like passenger airbag faults.
You need to interrogate the correct ecu to read the code, it may be a sensor or one of the airbags
Get it on the charger, I have had the same issue and always corrects itself after 24hrs on CTEK MX5.0. Various other messages such as eletronic handbrake fault. CTEK has saved me a fortune on potential diagnostic visits to my indie guy.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I know the battery is good as I had just taken it off the CTEK and my reader said the charge was 13.5v. Its looking like a front sensor, are they handed as I noticed the left hand one from the driver seat is not seated correctly its slightly off skew but has been like that since I bought the car 3 years ago. I will now look to see what the cost of a new sender unit is, I'm sure I can fit it myself, probably only a few bolts ( if access allows ) lol's, famous last words.......

£159.95 for an Ebay sourced item is a bit high so you might want to check around for a better price. My local independent Jag specialist has just quoted me £149.96 each (incl.VAT)

I'm just going through my second lot of issues with the Pedestrian System on my 2011 XKR. In June 2021, my previous indie replaced both front sensors and now one of them has failed again after only 2,500 miles. My current indie yesterday ran a diagnostics check, cleared multiple fault codes etc and in 14 days will do a detailed check of the wiring and check both sensorsfurther before replacing both of them, which they would normally do on an XKR, as the front cone has to come off due to the position of the oil cooler for the supercharger. His total quote for the 2 sensors plus 1.5 hours labour, sundries (£2.99) and VAT was £423.92 - I'm prepared to take the risk of replacing just the one if everything else checks out OK to save £150.
