I'll be on the road from Edinburgh to London Sunday on the A1/ M1 afternoon and would like to make the journey more memorable by stopping somewhere on the way to visit some interesting places.
Now what would you suggest I check out?

Last weekend I got great suggestions on the forum, ending up changing my initial plans by going to the Brooklands Museum and Mercedes World!

There's the air museum at East Fortune, if you take the A1 route National Museum of Flight. If you can engineer your route to take in the B6277 between Alston and Barnard Castle, it's a great drive and you can visit the Bowes Museum The Bowes Museum. Further south, Gaydon is just off the M40 not far from Warwick Heritage Motor Centre Motor Museum, Gaydon.

Does it have to be motor vehicle related this time?

If you are coming down the east side of London and doing A1/M11/M25 I might suggest Duxford Air Museum again as its only 20 seconds off the M11. The Red Lion is a great place to eat in the vicinity.

Thanks for the suggestions.
We ended up just going for a scenic drive through the Borders and found ourselves in Blackpool of all places before returning home!
But the drive is never a bore in the XJ, now only if there were no silly speed limits...
