Places of interest to visit not too far from London

A friend of mine has arrived for a short visit and I want to take him to places of (car) interest tomorrow (Sunday).

It looks like that Browns Lane is not open on Sunday so I'm puzzled where to take him.

We've already planned to go to the Beaulieu museum in Southampton and perhaps Brands Hatch or Silverstone? (I know they are opposite directions from where I live in SW18 but since we'll be traveling in the XJ it can't be boring).

Could I ask for ideas for where to go, travel time 2 hours max from London?

Hi. You could go north towards Northampton and Wellingborough were you will find Santa pod raceway thats about 1.5hr from London or 78 miles. I dont know whats on this weekend though. :)
If you fancy a little ride down the A40 to Oxfordshire, there's a really good classic car show/rally at a place called Churchill (about 4miles from Chipping Norton).

Here's a link: Vintage & Classic Car Show - Churchill and SarsdenOxfordshire

It should be good. I was planning to go myself, but unfortunately have other commitments.
Brooklands Museum at Weybridge/Byfleet. A great day out.
Admittedly not cars, but most car people I know find aircraft fascinating, so - RAF Museum at Hendon. You can get there by Tube, and if you're at all interested in aviation, it's well worth it.

Thanks, we ended up going there and spending 3 hours in the museum and the Merc dealership next door.

Then on our way to Brighton we passed dozens and dozens of two seaters like Caterham, MGs and Triumphs.

Something must've been going on there.
Glad to hear you had a good day out. :)

The RAF museum is a very interesting place and, although definitely pushing the Jaguar - Ford relationship too far ;), it does have a running Model T

It's been my project to get it running for the last 18 months. Learning to drive it is has been a bit of an eye opener though!

Only just seen this thread as I was away at the weekend... at Duxford Air Museum. Planes (including concorde) and tanks. Only an hour up the M11. I also spent 2 days at the National Railway Museum last week at Railfest2012; no cars though, only trains; and 4 hours away from London; so doesn't really fit your criteria. I too would have suggested Brooklands as it is very good - glad you liked it. Castle Coombe would have been just in your 2 hour limit I think.

Excellent - did you walk up the piece of banked track that's still there?! It's great fun trying to climb to the top - very steep!! Not sure what the other cars were about - was it the annual London to Brighton classic car rally? I know the Caterham Owners Club always have a bit of a day out to go and watch that as I used to go.
