Please Help!! - Loud noise when pulling away - 2.0d

Hi Guys,

Well I have had it two days and there are a few things I want to get looked at... One is a brake shudder under heavy(ish) braking and the other more worrying one is hard to describe.

Imagine the normal diesel noise you get , that slightly knocky sound, only when pulling away its a lot louder but non existant once up to speed, its only when the engine is under pressure... and its the same sound as normal engine sound so nothing like big ends etc...

Anyone got any ideas?

Andi, it is very hard to diagnose noises on the internet, I suggest that you take it to a Local Indy and hopefully find an inexpensive fix
As above. On the brake side; Could be worn pads/disk, disk run-out, contamination. If you are not familiar with braking system I would recommend you also get your local garage to check them too. Brakes are one thing you can't get away with a "quick fix" on.
As above and above that too, noises are always difficult to pinpoint on here.

As it happens when you say the engine is "under pressure", say pulling away, like when the turbo is spooled up?
Could be an air leak after the turbo, one of the pipes is prone to splitting, it's a well known issue, the one just under the EGR valve, that can make a whooshing, rasping sound when the turbo spins up.

Turbo it's self noisey, exhaust manifold blowing, injector knocking.
All these (and more) could be responsible.
Thanks for all the replies guys, I found the knock. It was the Dipstick holder knocking against the hole in the plastic engine cover lol

Haha, I do like those type of problems. There should be a rubber grommet on the cover that the tube goes through and is quite a tight fit. Sourcing one from your local hardware store shouldn't be much of a problem.
