Problem with central display xk4.2 coupe (2007)

I have an XK 4.2 coupe which I bought in 2007.
Many months ago the central display panel vanished and all I saw was the Jaguar logo flashing on and off. (see images) A blessed nuisance because I was unable to access the A/C and reverse sensor amongst several other features.
I have been unable to get it repaired. Jaguar cannot help as the model is no longer manufactured, and they do not have a replacement (which would have cost around 2.5 sterling.
A couple of weeks ago the display suddenly reappeared but does so intermittently.
Does anybody have any idea of the cause and how to get it repaired?
I have couple of techies who have told me they may be able to resolve the problem but no guarantees (I would have to pay them anyhow)

A fault that comes and goes like this is most likely due to a dry / broken solder joint somewhere in the electronics board, or supply to the screen. Given that it continues to flicker on the logo, you can probably discount the supply wiring. what were the circumstances when it came back to life - warm, cold, wet, dry, etc. If you have an electronics technician willing to have a look at it - bear in mind it is no more technological that a small flat screen TV - then go for it. What have you to lose. If it doesn't fix, you are still going to be looking around the breakers and scrap yards for a replacement.

The replacement has been discussed on the US forum where I believe it was found that certain XF year and model can be used. These are readily available on Ebay at a reasonable price.

I seem to remember that there are places in the UK where they will repair them .

A bit of research needed

Your problem is as follows. The screen runs on a fiber optic loop. Basically, depending on your options, there are 6-8 modules in this loop. When the screen gets stuck or flashes on and off, one of the modules in the loop is failing and attempting to reboot, or failed and just the log screen. You have three modules in the center stack. It's referred to as a center stack because of it's location and the modules are stacked one on top of the other. You have the touch screen itself, a little black box that's sits on top of your CD player called an information and entertainment control module (manages the sound system), then at the bottom you have your CD player which is also your radio and it's called an integrated audio module.

Then in the trunk (Boot), next to the battery you have a trunk stack. This is usually the BT module for telephone calls, Navigation DVD for your maps and you may had a satellite module if you have satellite radio.

Lastly and not likely on your model, if you have premium sound, you have an amplifier under the passenger footwell that uses MOST. You likely won't have USB/iPod but if you did, it would be in the boot near the fender.

You can test the modules in the boot yourself. Get a fiber optic bypass loop on amazon for about $8 US. You simply, one by one, disconnect the fiber optic connector from the module, connect the bypass loop to the fiber optic line until you find the culprit. It's usually (in this order) the BT Module, The Satellite Module, The Navigation module. If you can play music, CD or radio, the CD player is not the likely culprit and probably not the small black box above it. It could be the screen itself but it's last in my view.

As an example, in the boot, disconnect the orange bypass loop from the BLUE tooth module, connect the bypass loop to the fiber optic line. Look at your touchscreen. If it's working, your Phone tab will be grayed out but everything else is working. You found the culprit, replace the BT module.

Also, you cannot swap a screen out with one from an XF with your model year. That can only be done with the 5.0 Liter model years as they use the same part. In the 4.2 model years, the climate controls in the XF use a different module so while you will see the screen if you installed one in your XK, your heater/AC, heated steering, heated seats, etc will not work.

Interesting, mine gets stuck on the Jaguar logo once every few weeks. I've just found that if I turn the engine off, get out and lock the car for a minute, it always comes back on.
A bit annoying though as you say, parking sensors, speakers etc won't work whilst the screen is like this. Thankfully haven't reversed into anything yet...
It's fine for now, just hoping it doesn't become more frequent!
