purchased 2007 STYPE, info required on TOWBAR fitting?

Hello !

My father has just purchased (picking it up on Wednesday) a lovely frost blue 2007 Stype, 42000 miles and just a beautiful car!

I am merely the motorcycling son who is more technologically advanced and hope to gain a little more information having read a fair amount whilst lurking here prior to registration.

Would I be correct in assuming that certain towbar suppliers don't have the stype listed to supply because an electrics part/pack is no longer available hence any potential "fitter" would have to know exactly what they are doing on installation?

it follows that your average towbar fitter is not likely to want to touch it because you need specific product knowledge to do the job correctly?

Far from being a tow god myself and having never having to deal with "twin electrics" "single electrics" etc I have been trying to read as much as I can!

The PFJONES website that show witter bars, but no electrics kit (I presume this would be the one that talks to the car changes certain settings etc that is no longer available)
when you select the Stype towbar you can select your electrics requirement, your given options here so its obvious you can buy the required gear to do the job.

can anyone offer advice - I know the lovely car should not be tainted with an ugly towbar, please dont be mean ;) I agree with you! however the old chap loves to get about and enjoy a bit of the outdoors, and he fell in love with the stype! we must go forward from here :)

Hi FJR PILOT. I think your assumption is probably right. The Jag 'plug and play' tow bar electrical kit has been unavailable for some time. I think some installers shy away from the S-type because of its complex electrical system with switched earths rather than switched positives. I had a Witter tow bar fitted two years ago, and the installer had no problem making a twin electric system using stock items.
As for the ugly tow bar, if you are willing to pay, a detatchable is the answer. Mine is a standard fixed affair, but it saved my bumper when the old boy next door ran into my car while he was attempting to park his brand new Astra. I just had to pull the bracket holding the electrics straight, he needed a new bumper!
Hi FJR pilot...Welcome to the forum... Where are you so folks cant try and help you locally. If you in the North East try Hedleys at Durham, they have just fited a witter detachable towbar with single electrics and made an excellent job of it for £438....it is a 5 hour bumper off job....lets know how you get on...
why thankyou for the info guys, were in the mudlands I am not sure which companies my father has tried so far, he did mention a couple that he had used before previously who both said no!
with single electrics does that mean, no fridge freezer connections etc - just plain old indicators and brake lights? is that the safest (best practice) for towbars and s-types - I can imagine all kinds of lights being triggered on the dashboard!!
I used Car Window Tinting, Towbar, Car Security & Hands Free Kit Fitting | AMJ Auto Services who are in Hungerford, when getting a bar fitted to my S Type, but they could be a bit of a trek for your father.

Sorry FJR PILOT what I ment to say was single 13 pin electrics which of course replaces the old style twin electrics (all in one plug so to say) :)

well I am not a caravan man, but I am learning the ways of the caravan force just nicely! thanks everyone.
I am new to the forum but would ask for some clarification on S type tow bar fitting - This job normally I do myself. I have previously had 4 X types with 2 of them professionally fitted towbars, and Oh boy, what a mess, Cut bumper looked like a pair of play scissors was used, and 1 had the electrical connections taped in place.

I want a detachable one for my S type (2007) with body kit and fancy the look of the Brink unit but they cannot confirm it fits with the rear bumper grill which surely needs cutting? I also guess the same applies for the Witter bar? Anyone had any experience with the Witter or Brink unit and how it fits with the mesh grilled rear bumper?
The lower black valance gets cut to fit the detachable unit, well it is on mine.
i will get a picture for you
Much appreciated, A picture would be great, do you know what make of tow bar is fitted to your car?
Genuine one I believe
the pictures are the links above your post.
Hi, I don't have any photos at the mo, but mines a genuine jag one and you have to cut the rear black trim as in v40tc photos but it fits from below, not from behind.
