Question ref Headlight adjustment

Hi Guys. Just picked my car up from the MOT Station and they said they had to adjust the headlights as they were too high. My question is if I have the self leveling headlights how did they manage to adjust them as they should auto sense and be level. Also it's flown through the last MOT's with no adjustment or advisorys why after only 4k miles do they all of a sudden need adjusting at a cost of £12 or is this just bullpoo and a way to get an extra £12 out of you.

Hi Guys. Just as an after thought would not the engine have to be running to set the headlights correctly as the car has self leveling air suspension as well as the motors that move the lights automatically ???
The lights adjust themselves with the key in the ignition to pos 2.
But the suspension only lifts up when the engine is started (on mine at least anyhow).

When I did the job on my headlights to change the aim left-right, the guys in the tyre shop had to adjust the right one cause it was pointing too high. They adjusted it themselves, I think it's just the usual plastic screw job.

Quite how the self-leveling works, in conjunction with the suspension, is still a mystery to me...
I'm cocerned that they just parked the car up checked the horn and indicators then turned on the headlamps and checked them without the ignition running. As I notice that the car squats a little at the back end with the ignition off and when you start the car it picks it's self up a little bit, thus with ignition off the lights could have been pointing too high and now the idiot has wound them down they will be lighting up the road only 2ft infront the car.

I've realized my right side is uneven, now I am wondering if it should auto adjust as well? If it so, it's not doing... XJ X350 Diesel souvereign 2006.

What about the other idiot who isn't maintaining his car properly ?
