hi everyone my rear anti roll bar bushes need replacing and ive been looking on ebay for replacement (dont want to pay main stealer prices), ive found some polyurethane anti roll bar bushes for £29.30 for the pair and just wondered has any forum member fitted these to their cars and how are they performing.
the ebay seller is wiadereczko and states that the hole for the roll bar to fit through is "18.2mm(original 19mm) so fit and hold better than the original". just dont want to buy these bushes to find they dont fit properly or make the car worse than on the original type of bushes, any info on these poly bushes will be greatfully received,

many thanks all in advance , john

Wiadereczko is a forum member and he's probably right. (PM him and ask him for a Forum discount lol)

What you have to take into account is that the bar where the bushes fit, rub and wear down, so even fitting a genuine bush isn't the complete answer, most have to wrap the bar with electrical tape to take up the slack.

Count on the torque headed bolt of each bush retainer being seized, kept soaking them up before hand and use the right torque socket.
You might have to heat the welded nut part up to get them out.
Bin the old torque bolts and fit 4 new stainless M8, 30mm long should be enough.

If one shears on the way out, drill all the way through and fit the new bolt with a nylon lock nut at the back.

thanks for that goudy, im not new to working on my own cars and know how much of a pig some bolts can be to remove so im not worried too much about that part. i am aware of the rubbing down of the anti roll bar from some of the previous threads ive read on the subject and do plan to wrap the bar in tape to take up the slack, i was more wondering about the benefits of poly bushes as ive only used oem bushes on previous cars so was interested in the performance/ lifespan of these poly bushes. i have also seen some replacement bolts for the mountings with a normal hex head so will be getting these as well, also i was wondering as to the diameter of the anti roll bar (havent measured it yet) is there different thicknesses of roll bar fitted to the x type? have seen some roll bar bushes with a 22mm hole through a different seller, but thank you for your input.

Poly bushes do last longer and are more resilient to the elements, oil etc.
The normal rubber bushes do break down after a while and tend to wear away quicker. Poly bushes, depending on how they are made do seem a little stiffer and return to there original shape better.

Fitting the other suspension bushes in the wishbones and hub carrier etc with Poly doesn't half tighten the car up and stops all the clonking, my Alfa drives spot on and I've rebushed a Discovery with them as well, Wiadereczko can supply all the X Type suspension bushes in Poly, he's refitted his whole car!

I wouldn't hesitate the use them on the anti roll bar, I didn't fit them to mine as they weren't listed when I looked for them and I couldn't be bothered sourcing them, but would do if they need changing again.

As for sizes, I was under the impression they were 19 or 20 mm, so the 18.2 should be ok, but you could measure the bar first if you aren't 100% sure, but I'm certain Wiadereczko will sort you out correctly.
PM him, but I think he's away until Wednesday.

thats excellent information there goudy actually knowing that someone has used poly bushes and has seen an improvement, it does say on the ebay page on holiday till the 23rd, will wait till then, then i think ill take the plunge and buy them, also gives me time to get out and measure the dia of the bar. will probably only do other bushes as and when needed as everything else is spot on, just the knocking on the back end over bumps due to the anti roll bar bushes. many thanks again for you info, very usefull in making my mind up whether or not to go for poly bushes.
Fitted poly bushes on rear ARB resulting in much tighter ride, recommend them.
The ones I bought were 19mm for MK3 Mondeo from flo-flex on E-Bay.

i now have my poly bushes and replacement bolts for the mountings, i know the answer will be on here somewhere but with the links not working i thought i would ask, what is the torque wrench setting for the mounting bolts for the rear anti roll bar mountings.
The final tightening of the rear suspension components must be carried out with the vehicle on its wheels.
Tighten the ARB bushes bolts to 25 Nm.

Mine were a pig to get off (see this thread with pics) http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/f22/rear-anti-roll-bar-bush-replacement-1004.html
Some dealers often just rotate the worn bushes 180* as they only tend to wear on one side at a time so get twice the life out of them.

well just an update, as its been nice today thought id do the anti roll bar bushes. plenty of soaking in penetrating fluid on the bolts(a good spray once every hour for 5 hours) and the bolts easily come out :) removed the old rubber bushes and boy were they perished on the inside, luckily the bar was in good order with no wear. fitted the poly bushes(what a nice tight fit) bit of a pig to get the new bolts in but managed, all tightened up, then took the car for a test drive and what a difference. no more loud banging from the back nice and quite like a jag should be and what a nice ride, also a noticeable change to the handling nice and tight on the back end, so im now a happy man, just have to do the brake discs and pads now as they are near the point that i think they should be done.
Nice result!

Plenty of help for brakes on here too.

thanks goudy, not too worried about the front discs and pads done plenty in the past and know they are pretty straight forward, its the rears as i dont have the wind back tool and no brake bleeding kit, but dont think these are as close to needing replacing as what the fronts are so plenty of time to get myself a wind back tool. but i know that if i do run into any problems there is always a bunch of helpfull forum members willing to give advice.
Recently fitted a set of these

X Type Drilled Grooved Brake Discs and EBC Redstuff Ceramic Brake Pads | eBay

Highly recommended

I haven't a wind back tool either, just use a large G clamp and some grips to turn the pistons, (remember to turn the pistons the way the wheels turns when driven forward)
If you had said the other day John I could have lent you mine
I was lucky, I borrowed the tool from an old workmate.

havent got the discs or pads yet so plenty of time yet, thanks for the offer buck maybe i could borrow them at the next nejec meet if its not too much trouble. any reccomendations as to what discs and pads to get ? i usually go for mintex pads and discs as i think they are good value for money and have always done well for me, gwj i think ill have a look at those pads and discs but i have been told certain ceramic pads need to be up to temperature to work properly, are these ok without any loss in brake performance when cold ? wouldnt mind a set of ceramic pads to cut down on brake dust.
Just bought Mintex discs for mine, already have the redstuff ceramic pads all around on my XJ and X Type for the last 3 years I owned that (also with EBC turbo grooved discs on the X Type)
They work fine from cold, virtually no dust (what little there is is probably road griome as it wipes straight off) and last according to EBC up to 6x longer than std pads although they still had an awful lot of pad material on my X Type 3 years after fitting and still have on my XJ also after about 3 years of enthusiastic driving.I still cant get them to fade even though I have tried!I wont fit any other pad to my Jag now
G
thanks buck thats good to know, i think ill look into them especially as i plan to get the alloys refurbed and cutting out the brake dust is going to be a top priority with fresh wheels. how much should i expect to pay for these as ive noticed there is a lot on ebay at all prices, the link earlier in this thread to ebay has front and rear pad and disc set for about £233 is this about what i should be paying ? im normally used to paying about £60-£70 for each end with normal mintex pads and discs, its always good to get others input before commiting to something lol.
