Rough idling

157 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Bruyere
Hi, my 1997 XK8 drives fine, but when idling the engine is a bit rough and shaky.

I tried the following:

-replaced both camcover and all the sparkplug seals, there was some oil in the sparkplug holes
-replaced the sparkplugs
-replaced all the coils
-replace air mass meter (with used one)
-new air filter
-cleaned the trottle body

All of the above gives no improvement.

Any sugestions what else I can try??

Note: at the moment I can not connect an OBD scanner, the connection plug is dammaged, have to fix that first
Also, the chaines and tensioners have been replaced about 40k km ago.

You really need to get that OBD port repaired first. It could be a dirty fuel injector or an air leak but that is just guesswork.

Ok, looks like de OBD poort is working again. Got a few codes but doubt this has enything to do with the rough idling.
P1798, P0790, U1260 and U1041.
The first 2 appear to be transmission related and this may help on the ‘U’ codes; True meaning of the U1260 and U1261 codes? - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Thanks for the link. The TCM module have been replaced not so long ago, and last week I have removed the dashboard for some checks. Perhaps that is the reason for these codes. Have cleared them now, see if they come back.
