Sometimes Dreams do Come True!

Hello one and all, first post, a bit daunted by all your knowledge, but here goes!
My first Jaguar? 1976 Series 2 XJ6, only one fuel tank available, the other one bunged up! Loved it, but it had to go in the end, too many body issues.
Then an E Type Replica, (Challenger), fantastic, well sorted and totally reliable. At the same time, an XJS HE...............for She Who Must Be Obeyed! We both loved it, but they had to go when I retired, (for the first time), and we had a Smart Roadster - great fun! That had to go when neither of us could get out of it! Getting in was aided by gravity.
Nearly there, the point is..........at Mathewson's auction in June, with my son-in-law, just for a day out, as you do. The next thing I know is that his hand is in the air, the hammer has gone down, and he has bought a 2003 XJ8, with 111,000 miles. I asked him what he was doing, and he said to me............."Happy Birthday".

After recovering from the shock, he explained that he knew I was hankering for a "proper car", and he bought it for me. He had it checked over at a local Indie, who has proved to be a great find. I got the car at the end of June, and my grin just gets wider and wider!! No excuse is too small to go out in the Jaguar, ( not the Jag), and I can waft away to my heart's content!
Hope this of some interest, maybe I'll meet up with some of you one day, who knows.:-D

Great story Vic , theres a big difference between the Series 2 and the XJ8 , is that the X350 aluminium model you have
or the previous one ? no particular reason for asking only that they are vastly different cars .
Please keep posting and I am absolutely delighted for you , welcome to the Forum
Welcome to the forum Vic. That’s a good kid you’ve got there, enjoy.
What a great day out at the auction - enjoy your wafting and this forum - it is a very special car.
That’s a great story and pleased that you have re-discovered that Jaguar feeling. Welcome back to the club. :-D
Thanks for your kind words, and apologies for not saying that it is an early 4.2 V8 X350, delivered 10/4/2003. That was why my very bright son-in-law bid on it! Been standing for a long time, but he felt it was a worthwhile gamble. Four new tyres, a full service, a replacement gearbox, (!), and a valet, then he let me have the car! Silver, with rear multimedia package, but no heated seats! After fettling by aforesaid local indie Jaguar specialist, it drives like a limo! I'd like to post a link and some pictures, but the nine year old twins next door can't come round to show me how to do such wonderful things, as it's past their bedtime!
Thank heavens it is a V8, don't do diesels or milk floats. At my age, 75, I don't have to be PC! Remember chaps, acceleration is NOT illegal! I love blowing away the odd hot hatch or any of the Teutonics! White haired? Yes! Still a hooligan at heart? No comment.
Nice to be among like minded aficionados!!
By the way, no you can't have him, but mother in law's ashes could be available!
Great story, and what a son-in-law. Now we know why you let him marry your daughter lol.
Have to say that my X350 is a diesel and I love her. So smooth and quiet.
Nice story Vic. By the way it is a limo so enjoy every minute of it, you lucky man:mrgreen:

Not related to the other Victor up here in Gods country are you?

You cannot have enough Victors.

Tony
Great story looking forward to seeing her.
Sorry to go on and on, but managed to get hold of the original sales brochure, with all the inserts - price on the road in April 2003 £58k, including extras! Also got both press packs from the launch in 2002, interesting reading.
Always knew I would be a Jaguar man, when I picked up my girlfriend in 1961, (now my wife of 52 years), in my 1953 Triumph Mayflower, wearing a Robin Hood hat with a feather, yellow scarf and sheepskin coat, her mother said I looked like a spiv!!! Also wearing Dent string backed driving gloves - anyone remember them? Still got them, think I'll wear them when next out in the Silver Dream Machine.
Lots of cars, lots of fun, love life!
Not related to anyone else named Victor! I'm the last of the line, so going out with a bang!
Don't apologise for telling your car stories. I'm sure I speak for most by saying we're not only Jag lovers but car lovers and we love to hear stories like this. Much better than the TV these days lol

There's no need to apologise for going 'on and on' about Jaguar's here or related anecdotes for that matter. Better here than Twitter :-D
Fantastic, what a son in law you have. Welcome to XJ ownership, I'm still chuffed with mine after nearly 2 years.
welcome aboard, great read, I’ve enjoyed going through it, so keep it up, and I’m sure for a pack of smarties and a fruit shoot you’ll get some photos up soon enough.
its so refreshing hearing about stuff like this.......

.....and welcome
