Sticking brake calliper front wheel

1732 Views 8 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  jerry
Hi,

I have a sticking brake calliper on the front left wheel, which is stopping the wheel from rotating freely (its does rotate but is stiff).

I have been quoted from a local tire garage £170 for a new calliper fitted, apparently it is a 2-piston type and that these days callipers are just replaced, not stripped/cleaned/reassembled.

If anyone could offer advice on if the above is reasonable or if a lower cost option is possible, any links etc.. it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Ronnie

Hi. I had 2 calipers replaced on my X308 and from memory the items themselfs cost about £80+ . I never looked for an overhaul kit for the calipers but that does not mean they do not exist. :)
Thanks for the reply Jerry,

By comparison my quote for just the one caliper sounds quite expensive then..!

Here you go I just found this if its any help :)

Thanks for the post and the link.

Sounds cheaper,

£60 caliper
£20 piston
£15 seal kit

Total £95

The guy at the garage said they were two piston, but appears he was wrong.

Have just stumbled on this- would appreciate views on if this is suitable.

The link I gave you has everything if wanted but the calipers shown are by the looks of it complete and no need to buy the extras. The ebay ones are £70 inc postage. Have you tried Jaguar | Land Rover spare parts at British Parts UK ?

Thanks for all your help Jerry.

I didn't realise the in the link you sent that the calipers were the complete assembly. I will call them and check tomorrow.

I just checked Jaguar | Land Rover spare parts at British Parts UK and their price is £95, with a £30 rebate when you send in your old caliper.

perhaps I am being thick here but I can't seem to figure out which one I need for left front. From the fitting position diagram I can decipher that the caliper is 'Trailing', however I don't get how that relates to which one to order? Jaguar XJ8 1997 - 2002 3.2/4.0 Front Brake Parts

Plus, the caliper in the picture looks a lot smaller then what I am seeing on the car.

any help much appreciated.
