The EU could destroy the Motorsport Industry in Europe...

I thought this would blow over and dropped by now, but obviously not

"We have until October 20th to respond to this important EC consultation, details of which are attached - if we fail to secure the amendment we seek then the likely outcome is that all motorsport activity, in every EU Member State, will cease"

It looks to me like a lot of puff Engineer , its hard to believe that Motorsport would effectively be outlawed in
Europe . Mercedes , Ferrari , Renault , there is a lot of capital and influence there not to mention the Political
Lobbying which no doubt goes on .
Whats your own opinion ?
I think I agree Red. Not to mention Red Bull, MaClaren, and others in the UK.

It's a consultation.
The link is to a PR "puff" by :

CMA Marketing was founded in 1991 with the specific aim to provide marketing support to companies in the motorsport, automotive and technical arenas. In 2010, operations expanded with the founding of a Silverstone office.

Wouldn't worry too much personally !!
Was it in the Daily Mail? To be honest it sounds like the Insurance companies are lobbying to make even more money. At the moment, if I take my bike or car on a racetrack my road risk insurance is cancelled.

That's what I thought Red but the MIA are the professional body which represent all motorsport manufactures and companies in the UK and are obviously concerned.

Here are the questions in the EU consultation the MIA are worried about with regard to cars and bikes competing/testing on private property.

As regards the big boys above I would imagine they can cover their own insurance for works teams no problem.

News has just hit main stream today https://www.motorsport.com/general/news/eu-directive-close-down-motorsport-964469/

You forgot to have a go at the Daily Express as well.

TBH I don't understand why you always try to pull in the Tories or right wing papers to negative news when no such link exists. As you said, you are not a dyed in the wool Socialist but you still use standard socialist tactics of trying to tarnish reputations by inference.

However, it does make my day more interesting especially noting the time you post at. When do you sleep and why place the Doh last on your list, it should be first?

I must be bored out of my mind, I have just finished reading the blurb on this subject.

The interesting/funny bit is that the people putting this together obviously live in a small, sheltered world unaware of reality. Just one snippet.

Definitions:
A.2.5 SCOPE
The MID provides that the use of any motor vehicles intended for travel on land and
propelled by mechanical power must be insured for third party liability. A sufficiently
wide definition of vehicles was important to ensure that victims of accidents are
adequately protected. However, due to rapid technological development over the last
years, the original definition now encompasses a much wider variety of newly created
vehicles, such as low-speed electric bicycles, Segways, golf buggies or mobility scooters.

Note, "low speed electric bikes and mobility scooters".

I can just see the new wave of insurance scams including being hit from behind by a mobility scooter or an electric bike doing 4MPH.

What the heck, I am sure this is all just a big joke aimed at setting up committees and spending EU tax payers money on jollies and meetings with no intention of an outcome. They could make this last for years and secure thousands of EU bureaucrat jobs this way.

Chaps with these types of threads I don't have the time to read through layers of documents to find out what the problem is.

I am happy to support movements like this to try to prevent stupidities.

So what's this all about?

To do anything positive, would you list the salient points here?

Oh come off it Jim, if you don't have the time then what hope is there for the rest of us who can't afford to spend all day mixing it on Forums, relaxing in the sun and slurping KEOs?
I don't mind following one link or two but wading through documents is too far, my KEO would get warm and there so many other threads needing my support! ;)

And my eyesight is not so good for my phone screen on full size A4 pages.

It would appear Jim that some farmer had an accident in Slovenia using his tractor and knocked someone of his ladder.

I kid you not it was in the Sun last year https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/24853...-of-uk-motorsport-due-to-ruling-on-insurance/

So now the EU are proposing third party insurance for all vehicles used on private land which of course includes motorsport vehicles.

This very short link so you won't get bored  which I posted earlier sums it up for motorsport https://www.motorsport.com/general/news/eu-directive-close-down-motorsport-964469/

Third party used to be cheap.

But I noticed "Unlimited cover".

That could be millions in the UK. Do the premiums will be ridiculous I guess.

Why didn't Germany and France and Spain contest it? And us?

Because it's Juncker's EC and the method is go to his pals at the European Court of Junckers?

So this is another excellent example of why we need to get out from under the inconsiderate no-exceptions, no thought thumb of the great EU.

But not the EU. The Junckers EC.

I see it's not up to any government, they have all been overruled. By court ruling. For one accident you say?

Very balanced, aren't they?

Of course this will be enforced on us too with immediate effect despite our ongoing Brexit negotiations. Will our government then cancel it after?

Well, I work in central London. I have cancer which means I have to take a lot of drugs every day to "control" what was done to me. I have chronic pain as a result of the op to remove part of my intestine and I'm classed Dukes stage 3.

So to get to London I have to get up at 04:00, take the first "tranche" of drugs, wait for the effects to wear off, take the 2nd set, then get ready to jump on my two wheeled express to ride from Hayling Island to, at the moment, the Science Museum on Exhibition Road in London. Then I work until I go home, because I'm a site manager I'm first there last away, eat, take my "last dose" and go to bed circa 10:30. I run quite well on 5 hours of sleep.

But that's what I do. I could quite easily sit on benefits apparently because people in my condition usually do that. But I'm old school and won't give up.

Every admiration over the cancer. Our Thai "sister" had ovarian cancer stage 3 and after a long session of chemotherapy was given a few years at best. That was back in 2004. She embraced Tai Chi and does several hours each day. She is now a Tai Chi master (Mistress?) and her annual checks show no sign of the cancer returning. She is like a hyperactive child nowadays instead of a zombi.

Perhaps it's focusing on something else in life that helps. For her Tai Chi and for you, your work.

I think it's that positive mental approach that says "I will not be beaten" that does it.

I still think the Doh should be top of the list.

Tony
Good on you Lost One.

I think too that's it's having an aim and a schedule of activity each day that's important to good health.

And the occasional KEO of course.

And lots of laughter. I hope I give you guys some of that. ;)

Just the fact that you admit to drinking KEO makes me laugh. What's it made from, fermented old socks? It's awful.

When allowed, give me a pint of Theakstones 4X or Old Speckled Hen any day.

Well its only up for consultation at the moment but we have all seen how the EU works so who knows were it may lead?

Nice to see you keeping the thread on topic Jim unlike others

By the way I've found that Keo lager is a refreshing sup :)
Nice to see you keeping the thread on topic Jim unlike others
After the first two pages of replies, who gives a fig? Nothing changes re the subject so let's just pick on the wounded wilder beast instead.

Tony
Tony.

You Must Chill a lager! Tsuh!

Good for you, Engineer.

So chaps come on, how can this stupidity to ban cars so soon be stopped? Again on the news is renewed attack using old discredited findings that diesels are to blame for 75,000 premature deaths in a 2-year period. When the total of all deaths due to "Respiratory Problems" in the same period were 29,000 in that period's first year!

And then another report clarified that "premature" meant a mere 3 hours too!

Absolute Bull. All of this is poo.

Just to scrounge money from you all as well as me, by lies and false pretences.

We need us on the streets showing these idiots as idiots. Starting with Khan, Sturgeon and the Oxford Dolts.

Where's my war-room team?
