Thought I might post a few updates here and there of odds and sods I manage to get done. Cars a 3.0 s type. Pretty good nic although not perfect.

Today was supposed to be be Juno wheel fitting day. First i unloaded the wheels after having new tyres fitted and found a one of the wheel weights had fallen off. 15g I think. No way to tell which wheel so once fitted I’ll have to pop into get them balanced again. Got all my tools ready to go and thought well before I get everything set up I’ll check the locking wheel nuts undo. Well the first one I tried didn’t so I had a sulk and put everything away an again. The key looks all bent out of shape and I don’t think the wheels have been off for 6 years so even though I hammered the key to shape and made it fit pretty snug it’s just too much for the key to take. It’s booked into a great local shop to work the magic next week.
Managed to fit the new wipers though so not a total waste of time lol.

To do list

Clean wheel wells
Paint callipers silver while fitting wheels
Fit new wheels

All in one go.
Remove scuttle panel and fit new pollen filter
Fit new air filter
Replace broken slat grill with new mesh grill.
Clean out any the drain holes under scuttle. (Think they are clear but going to check)
Have a quick clean of engine bay.

I’ll try and post some pics if I remember to take any as I go.

Nice little to do list and all achievable. Will make a big difference. (y)

Is there a letter stamped on your locking wheel nut key?
I believe that the locking nuts came in something like A, B, C, D, E, F, G flavours. You could probably find the correct key online used or from the dealer.

Yeah nothing too tricky or at least shouldn’t be but will make it look much classier. (Really dislike the wheels it has on now)

I’ll check the key and see what’s what. Thanks.

Hey Carlos, nice car and onwards n upwards getting her the way you want her

That list isn't too big, or shouldn't be too costly, time mostly I suppose.

Crack on and update when you can
Cheers

Jim
Checked the key and its a T but the cheapest key I can find is £37. The garage charged me about £30 last time I went for stuck lockers so going to stick with that as I’ve read the locking nuts on these are relatively poor anyway.

Got the replacement grill fitted and it looks grand! New MANN pollen and air filter fitted. Cleaned out the scuttle drain holes (couldn’t be arsed to clean the engine bay) and it’s all back together without breaking anything!

Those wheels will look far nicer imho, and more to the point will be massively easier to clean!!

Lol LESS spokes for me definitely!

Easier on the eye and much, much less cleaning involved

the 18” multispokes look good but still I think these suit the flowing style of the car best and as said by previous poster 10 x less grief to clean. They should be on tomorrow time permitting.

Got the wheels changed the other day. Gave it a quick wash today and looks loads better to my eye.

That is a lot cleaner looking. Those old wheels scare me. I had BBS style 5's on a BMW (obviously) and they took about an hour and a half to clean, but they were special so I put up with it. Those old rimz are just boggo rimz and probably take the same amount of time!
How's the car faring for the impending sill rot? Can you see any signs? Is she a clean one? My early black one is remarkably mint, the others... nah!

Style 5’s are lovely but I couldn’t live with them.
Rot on the car is a mixed bag but it’s mostly full of clean metal!
It’s to cold for me to get under it on the drive or street so after purchase I took it to a jag specialist for a oil change and a once over and they said the under side treatment it has had is top notch. I knew that it had been done but that was good to hear. However that was done 5 years ago (although only a few thousand miles ago) and there is a few areas that need treating during the summer.
3 inner wheel arch lips have a few areas of brown mostly on the vertical face so that’s pretty easy just take the liners off and treat. The sills are all good when it was treated the covers were removed cleaned underneath and put back on. This won’t be driven on salty or wet roads but it will live on the street so hopefully it’ll stay clean enough for me for the foreseeable.

Small job today. The tool kit was a bit broken up and missing the towing eye and chock. £23.99 delivered with a small break in transit but fixed with a bit of tape. Gave the spare wheel area a quick wipe down as likely it’ll never be cleaned again until it’s scrapped.
