Things you didn't know your car did......

For ages I carefully edged my car in and out of the garage being careful not to scrape the mirrors. I knew they folded in when locking the car but didn't know you could do it manually until I experimented today.
By pressing the 'Right & Left' electric mirror buttons together, the mirrors fold in.

I'm looking forward to seeing more so we can learn more about our cars (because we're too lazy to read the manual!),

add to the list below........

Er.. only if you have that option fitted. Mine hasn't, unfortunately.

FWIW, folding mirrors are standard in the UK, but not, apparantly in the USA.
I thought they were an option, on the earlier cars anyway.
From the 2007 price list,
Heated exterior mirrors with electric adjustment, power folding, auto-dimming and memory function - £285
Make sure they don't unfold automatically when you unlock if you've folded them manually to park close to a wall!
I had a BMW 645i coupe and two weeks before I sold it I discovered it had Adaptive Headlights that moved with the steering wheel a la the Cotroen/maserati SM for ages ago. They only worked with the light switch on auto. A button I would like to find on the XKR is a central locking open button as it is very annoting to have to lean over to open the passenger door.
one press on the fob should operate the central locking which should open both doors? I think you can program it to only open one? Maybe yours needs "un-programming".
unlock drivers door this will unlock n/s
I mean if I'm driving from the car park and stop to pick up wife from shops or mate from pub etc the doors have locked and keys live in my jacket, which is in the back. So I have to open my door to open the passenger door! It's lack of attention to detail in my view on a car of this quality.

I don't know if it will work on the XK range but it does on the X-type
1. Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine.
2. Lock the door by pushing in the button by the handle, and then pull the handle slightly to reopen it; repeat this sequence twice more.
3. Turn off the ignition and leave it off.
4. Lock the door by pushing in the button by the handle, and then pull the handle slightly to reopen it; repeat this sequence twice more.
5. Turn on the ignition again but don't start the engine. A ping should be heard.
6. Lock the door by pushing in the button by the handle and then pull the handle slightly to reopen again. A final double-ping should be heard to show that auto-locking is on. If you've turned it off, another ping will be heard when you drive off, at the speed when auto-locking would normally engage.

Might be worth a try
How on earth do you ever find something like this out? And more to the point why would anyone program a car to do this??

It was on a post around Christmas, I found it by searching, it was done to stop the auto lock on driving off
So I have to open my door to open the passenger door!
No - you just have to give the doorhandle a very gentle tug to pull it from the recessed locked position to the unlocked position. Passenger door will unlock.

Thanks pj! Always wondered about this.

I'll give it a go but I'm still miffed that you have to resort to this rather than a CL button which you can find on a Kia. OK it's not a big deal but just shows either a lack of money or attention to detail when the car was designed which may be 8-10 years ago.
Id much prefer to reach to the obvious place to unlock the door which is the door handle than to fumble around for an unlock button as is the case with my runabout, particularly in the dark. There are enough buttons to contend with in the XK without superfluous door unlock buttons. I think this really is attention to detail IMO

Same here. Kinda makes sense how it is as it's a 2 door car. If it where 4 door then maybe the central button would be useful for the passenger to be able to operate the rear doors (for kids etc.). There is no need for an extra button for this.
