So does anyone have any tyre preferences on the XK, mine has come with plenty of tread left but they are cheap tyres, which I’m not too bothered about, for me how they perform is more important, the rears are Nankangs and are pretty crap if the roads are a bit damp anything other than very gentle pulling away results in wheelspin, on my old XJ8 I put Toyos on after a spell with some Nexens, the Toyos were much better that the Nexen which cracked on the outer tread section resulting in mot advisories and eventually a fail, but with tread left to spare, no issue with the Toyos which are reasonably priced, I don’t mind spending and getting good tyres but sometimes I think we pays for the name?

Upon recommendation by my Indy, I now have the Michelin’s all round. Extremely happy with their performance and quietness on the road. I personally would steer clear of Dunlops and Pirelli’s.

The newish Continental SportContact 7 is getting very good test results these days, especially on powerful RWD cars. Did less well on a FWD Golf but the Michelin was also rather average on that application. The SC7s are well priced and brought my XKR to life. The Bridgestone Potenza Sport is also very good as is the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport and the Pirelli P Zero PZ4. There is a lot of choice of good tyres out there. Take a look at these for some relevant tests that might give you some pointers about what might suit your tastes best:

Much of it comes down to personal preference though.

The problem with tyres though is that we can't go out and try them all. Actually, we can't even try any without buying them first! So "personal preference" is usually based on very little hands-on experience and often of products that have already been superseded or surpassed. Recent test results help fill our knowledge gaps to a certain degree.

I to usually steer clear of Pirelli, I had some on the xj8 and it was like skating on ice and trying to pull away on a wet surface was laughable, however I have a set on my R class, Scorpio verde all season, best tyres I’ve ever had, the grip is amazing and wear rate is slow.
I notice everyone is talking premium brands, I still think there is some paying for the name, I would happily pay £1000 for a set of tyres if I really thought you “get what you pay for” anyone had experience with the less than premium brands?

Michelins sound good for my purposes (getting the XK tomorrow and I'm a bit dubious about the tyres currently fitted - dunlops front and pirellis rear). Is it possible to pick up a set of smaller diameter genuine jaguar wheels and fit winter tyres to use for the next 3 months? If so any recommendations?

I'm currently on Falkens. They do everything I ask of them and came with a "kerb" damage warranty, which I used successfully a couple of years ago.

I just fitted new Falkens on the rear, nicely paid for through my RAC breakdown cover 'Tyre Damage' after the fitted Nexens were served "Advisories" for splitting & cracking. Having saved £400 I decided to fit her with Bridgestone Potenzas on the front, & she handles & rides like a dream now :cool:

Very much depends on personal taste and what qualities you are looking to accentuate.

Continental is very sharp in my experience, Stunning handling - The SC6 was second only to a Cup2 in terms of agility and playfulness. Tread life was bad - Only 6000 Miles where I got 15k+ On PS4S.

The Pilot Sport 4S (And 4 Really) are a little safer in handling (A little more understeer bias) - There is a lot of grip, but communication and response isn't as good as the continental. They will still perform quite well at lower temperatures, and also offer much better mileage and slightly improved comfort over the sportcontact 6.

For other brands, Pirelli I haven't had many experiences with and tend to be warned off.
Yokohama and Bridgestone offer a slightly stiffer sidewall and similar properties to the continental, but some of the compounds can be a little dated - I'm looking forward to the Advan V107 wider release. - I've heard good things about the new Potenza sports, but the tyrereviews test where they delaminated on track was disinspiring.

Whilst I've yet to try them myself, I've head Goodyear offer a very fine balance of the two properties on the Assy 6 & F1 Supersport - I'll probably be opting for the Assy 6 next on the XF, Pending a review against the ContiPremiumContact 7.

Good call FF
Loving my Falkens ( Falken Azenis FK510 - Now Azenis FK520 ) and on my 3rd set between the XJX 358 and the XJ X351. Great tyre, with rim protector and does exactly what I need of it, A rated in the wet and decent noise reduction qualities, all at a fair price, will be buying again no doubt.

Another Falken user Frostie, and a nice win on the RAC breakdown cover.
New rubber all round, bedded in will mean she's sticking to the road very well......

I think you'll find many, many people swear by the Michelin Pilot line. I had those on a few of my Jags, and on my XK years ago. Over the past 5-6 years, I've been going exclusively with the Continental Extreme Sport DWS06 because, in my opinion, the Michelins tend to get a bit loud as they age. I've loved my Continentals on my XJ, my XK, and my MBZ Roadster. Great handling tire, and they wear very, very well. While I like the looks of the Pirelli (and used to love the looks of the rounded-wall Dunlops on my older XJs), I find neither brand wears well.

Has anyone had any problems with the TPS system (Tyre Pressure Monitor) when having tyres other than the Jaguar recommended Pirelli or Dunlops fitted?
My 2009 XKr 5.0 needs new tryres, and I have opted for continental Sport Contact 7's Y(99) on the back and Sport Contact 5p's Y(97) on the front.
I couldn't find Sport contact 7's in 255/35/20 on Black cirlcles website.

I've never had a problem with TPMS with Michelin or Continental tires. My 2004 XJ has B.F. Goodrich tires and it's fine as well.

CanyonLakeJag thanks. I am not sure how TPS works, but I gather there is an extra valve in the wheel rim. I also don't know if my TPS system is still working either, as it hasn't been triggered since I have owned the car. Maybe I will find out Monday when the Continentals are fitted :)
I will make the tyre fitters aware of the TPS.

Shame you can't get the SC7 for the fronts. They are pretty easy to get out here. I switched last summer from some aging Dunlops and the difference in feel was significant. The car is so much nicer to drive. The SC5 is a pretty old design (ca. 2015). Are you sure you can't source a couple of SC7s for the front from somewhere else?
