My wife was happily driving home last week when the coolent low level warning came on.
She didn't stop as she wanted to get home for me to "take a look at".
It looks like the water pump failed and dumped most of the coolant.
She got it home sounding like a bag of spanners.
1 very cooked V8.
Water pump gone, thermostat housing leaking, coolant expansion bottle with a 5 inch crack in it and head gaskets gone.
Looking at about £2k.

Sad to hear but not the least bit surprising, anyone letting someone else drive their Jag - tell em to stop immediately if you get a coolant warning - these engines overheat fast and you're looking at a large bill. Where are you Bob, you may be able to get the job done cheaper? Especially if you're anywhere Doncaster ;)

I am just outside Southampton.
I do use a good independent Jag specialist who has plenty of spares and more importantly I trust him.
The engine has to be fixed as my wife feels so guilty and daft about it.
She has got an old XKR as a courtesy car, blimey dont they shift in sport mode!!
Its the old supercharged 4.2 XK engine.
All things considered with the courtesy car the overall bill isn't that bad.

We should get the XK back tomorrow.
The water pump failed which caused the problem but the not stopping caused far more.
The heads are OK so just been skimmed, had a few other jobs done.
Obviously new water pump, new metal thermostat housing and a few hoses changed.
All in all the bill has reduced to £1500, so not as bad as first thought.
Looking forward to getting her back, I miss the old girl.
The car not the wife!!!
