Violent shake from engine

854 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Fekker
A couple of times now I have started the engine (2.0D) and experienced a severe shaking from the engine and a hell of a bad sound like it was only running on 2 cylinders. As soon as I switch off the engine and restart all is well again, this has happened a few times now, anyone any ideas to what the problem is?

You've the dreaded warm start issue, though writing warm start, some have had it from cold but I think the issues may not be totally the same.

It's quite common, there are different strategies the ECU uses for hot and cold start and I think the engine fires (or tries to) with less fuel pressure when warm, it's obviously not enough pressure.

Some have found the ECU update Jaguar offers (at cost) sorts it out, unfortunately it didn't for me and I get it every now and then.
I get around it by cranking the engine 1/2 a second longer when warm starting.
Whew, thanks Goudy for the info, I was getting worried, nothing to worry about then.
I doubt it, just make sure you crank the starter properly, I presume it's warm start it does this?

If you're worried you can seek advice from the Dealer, see if an ECU update works.
Yes it was warm, it's only happened 3 times in 3 years so I'll leave it unless it gets more frequent.
