Hi
And welcome to the forum.

The handbook will tell you to always keep the climate control on Auto as this helps to keep the Windows from misting up.
The a/c button red light will always be on but the a/c will not be on all off the time as it will only come on when needed and depending on what temperature you have it set at.

If you can put your car details in your signature we will know what x type you have, our signature's are along the bottom.

Regards Tom.

As Tom says, we leave ours on all the time. You should however be able to turn it off. These cars do not use more fuel with them on.
The benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
