XJ X351 Stickies / How To threads and videos

Hey all, as some of you may know I currently have an XJ X358 but have been considering an X351 for some time. Now the X358 section along with many others has a nice sticky thread, some others have pictorial walk through thread, video how to threads and perhaps a "What to be aware of?" thread.

The XJ X351 section.......nothing of note?

So I issue call to all knowledgable / responsible and helpful owners, to make it their business to get these made and added.
If you see a likely thread as a possible candidate pm Ian and ask him to make it a sticky thread

I see there are a couple of sticky posts, but really need more, I'd respectfully suggest a coverall thread with "links" to these relevant threads contained within, all easily available and stickied at the top of the section page.

I'm really surprised that this car is now 7 years old and nothing like this exists, c'mon guys, get it moving and lets see what we can achieve :-D

Cheers
Jim

Er, can you explain what a sticky thread is please....

Hi Barrie, there are 2 sticky threads at the top of the section.

I'm suggesting a Main STICKY / How to type thread where all these other valuable and interesting threads are linked into, easily and quickly found as a reference point for all......

Guide - Door locking motor http://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=103525

Guide - Remove front door card http://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=103520

Etc

Etc

Etc

It's something that Ian can very easily sort out initially, then....It's a case of members advising as we go forward of any that are worthy of addition

I picked up my X351 in April, and was also surprised at most of the answers on this site and others to simple queries, i.e. "take it to a dealer". Yeah, right.

Hence, the limited stuff I've had to do so far - poly the forward lower front arm bushes (which is too straightforward to need a guide), and the front door locking motors (both sides, in less than 6 months!) - I have done guides when it seemed appropriate.

Currently, there seems to be a lack of like minded people, but I suspect once we get some more keen DIYers in this section, the tide will turn :)

As Jim says, any thread you seem to be of help I’ll sticky for the benefit of all. Once there are enough of them, a separate sticky section can be created.

Hey Ian, how about starting the main sticky section now, then getting "the boys" 2 excellent posts added into it?
Then we can push for more "how to" pictorials or video walk throughs for various bits n bobs.

The boy - I believe you made an error in judgement. You stated that doing the lower front arm bushes for example is too straight forward to need a guide. Here's the thing to remember and to bear in mind......

Not all forum members are at the same level in Mechanical tech or expertise, for some, even quite a few perhaps this could be the exact guide they're looking for and need, but is way too simple for you to even consider.
Please bear in mind that a good sticky DIY section can even include simple things like an oil change, a good write up for that believe it or not will probably get around 100k more hits than something a lot more complicated, believe me.

Thanks
Jim
I’ve made this thread a sticky too. :-D
Just an observation here , Jim seems to be pushing the X351 section nowadays !
I wonder why , maybe Yoda can help me work it out :)

As if you don't already know, but just in case :-D

Reasons here

This X351 sticky thread is long overdue and who knows Eddie, you or I might need it one day.

Once he gets the bone between his teeth, you know what he's like and the owners of these cars can only benefit from it.

He's the biggest Jack Russell I've ever seen ;-)

If truth be known it's even got me wanting to contribute, not so much for the car, but to keep it OCD friendly.

I'm not really up on all these modern X numbers of Jaguars , however ........
I could see Jim in this , the tail pipes look very nice , it's a V8 and stunning !
Worryingly , I could see myself in it too - maybe I have an itch for a V8 again.

wrong link Eddie, what I see is the same as yours and with a diesel engine.

On another note, this is a thread for the new XJ, not ours, so we'd better leave the building, quietly and by the back door.

Jim's thread 'Looking.....Just looking' is where we need to discus and keep the bunsen burner lit :-D

Hey Eddie
that's just my caring / sharing side coming out :-D

I noticed that the X351 sticky section was a little threadbare and wanted to rustle a few feathers to get the top DIY in the know experts posting for the benefit of all here...............

Any maybe for me in several months time too lol

Only problem I have is, leaving you legends in the X358 section
That said, I love you, but I'll miss ya lol

To be fair, chances are that You, Rich, Phil and probably a handful of others will make it there before I do at this rate..........orrrrr will ya?

Need to spend a little time delving deeper and trying to help build this section and my knowledge
Cheers

Stickies sub forum now live!

Any guides or threads worthy of moving across just let me know.
Hey ALL.......As you can now see Ian and Rory have done their thing and there is now a sticky sub forum section for all good "how to" pictorial threads or video walk throughs.

This section is jussssst a but light at the moment, so......

If you have any worth sharing, please get them added, they'll benefit all current XJ owners and also those that may decide to own one in the future too :-D:-D

Looking forward to all you DIY experts and knowledgable Jaguar guru's posts.....

Thanks
Jim
Hi everyone, distinct lack of how to's / tsb's and sticky tech type posts for this section.......

How about adding them if you have them?

I'm unselfishly thinking of all those potential owners in the near future who this will benefit :-D

Cheers

I did add an oil change (using vac pump method) a few weeks back, but put it in wrong area. No mod has seen fit to move it yet.

Granted, oil change is a simple task, but I'm secretly hoping that if people start getting confident doing simple tasks, it would stop the non-stop tosh of "tow it to a dealer" replies to all problems that plagues this forum.
