Hi, I'm currently selling my 59MGA and have decided to spend the proceeds on something a bit newer but just as gorgeous. My budget is between £15k-£19k (depends on how much I get for the MGA) and I was hoping to get some help in to narrowing down my search. My current thinking is that I should go for XKR 4.2 based on the fact that it has quad exhausts and I think I prefer the sound of a 4.2 in that it doesn't crackle like the 5.0 can and has more of a grumble. Any year that I can afford is likely to be 2007-2011. Advice on whether any of those years proved to be a better year than the other would be great. I'm not concerned regarding high mileage, something like 70-80k is fine as this will not be my main car and I estimate doing probably no more than 1500 miles a yr. Although with the high mileage in mind it would be good to know what are the expensive milestones to be aware of for high mileage cars. I also will need to keep the car on my driveway and as it might not get driven for a week or two somethimes I will need to invest in a decent outdoor trickle charger, advice for and against this would be great.
I know that any combination I will be very happy with so I'm not totally immovable on the XKR 4.2 and may well end up buying an XK 5.0 after listening to what you owners have to say! But of course your knowledge as to why you prefer a particular model would be immensely helpful and indeed what to particulary look and listen for when I take the plunge to test drive a few.
