XK8 intermittent electrical faults

Worst scenario, on the M25 and all of a sudden error codes flashed on - gearbox fault, DCS fault, limp mode, etc. Speedo, Tacho, temp gauge all fall to zero, no air con, or climate control. Car is running fine so I continue to drive to Fleet services. Turn off the engine and wait a while. Try to start again and nothing. Call out the RAC and he tests the battery, test all the fuses ok, checks the fuse box at the front LHS. Unplugs and removes the fuse box checks all the cabling. Ref it's the fuse box and the car starts fine but I can't get it in drive. So decides to recover back the an independent Jag garage I have used for many years. Now the car starts and runs fine. Any ideas?

What did the garage do then.

Nothing it started fine after recovery. They checked the codes which were numerous.
Sounds like it's battery related then.

Nope battery fine. RAC even tried the boost before recovering.
Then the codes should point to something amiss. Do you know what they were.

I would say there is a loose connection on the fuse box that was removed. Would be very wise to check all main positive and ground points for security and cleanliness.
+1 for the battery connection. Especially the Earth. If you have a bad earth it can lead to all sorts of interesting problems. Years ago in my Escort days I had an intermittent bad earth. One of the more interesting things it did was blast the horn and put the headlights on when I braked. Became rather tense when I had to brake hard behind so dodgy looking motorbikes at a level crossing. :)
Many thanks for your comments. There were so many fault codes it didn't really tell anything. All obvious earth connections checked including the braided cable that connects the gearbox to the chassis. Still no closer to finding the issue, especially as the car is running perfectly! Just feel nervous going on a long run.
The positive lead from the battery should go directly to the high power protection module (posh name for a high current fuse box), at the front of the spare wheel well. Check for loose/dirty connections there. They're not uncommon.
Also the crimp in the braided battery ground cable is know to go bad intermittently causing this type of issue.
So does the crimp on the + cable.
Quick way to test is to start the car, and then while running, touch the crimp, if warm it is going to cause trouble. Also volt drop is easily checked with a voltmeter.
On mine, it was used for a short commute for 4 days, day 5 would not start- low battery. 0.7V drop in the crimp.
Hi all and thanks again for the input. The car has been with E&E in Milton Keynes. Very helpful and knowledgeable. I managed to get a repeat of the fault, but it cleared itself again, so left it in the workshop. After about a week they managed to get the fault up again and diagnosed it as a faulty instrument pack (speedo etc). They have fitted a secondhand unit which seems to have cured the problem. Only trouble is the mileage is now 135000 whereas the car is on about 78000. The garage has fully documented the change (in the service book and on the bill).

Does anyone know if it’s possible to get the mileage adjusted?

I'm sure you can get the mileage adjusted. Just google Jaguar XK8 mileage correction and find someone local who can do it.
Ok found a specialist who says they can do it. However they say they need to lift a 64 pin chip from the board, and inject a voltage. There is a risk it could damage the board, chip, or both. Anyone else done this?
