Engine malfunction light on , scan showed fault P0235 Turbo Charger Boost Sensor malfunction, car was serviced this week and found this fault, but the engine feels to be running ok, I have done very little mileage in the last few years and very little motorway use and my mechanic says there is a carbon build up so give at a good motorway run these last few days and in low gear and pedal down I am sure turbo kicked in, just want to know if it is safe to carry on driving it with engine malfunction light on, with my late wife being disabled we have had motabilaty lease cars for the last 24 years and have forgot what under the bonnet looks like and can tell you it is a lot different than the it use to be LOL, so would be grateful for any help.

Can you put your car details in your signature, go to settings top right, then halfway down on the left, under "My Settings" select "Edit Signature". Put your car model, engine size, year and rough mileage in, it helps give accurate advice, though I assume you have a diesel, we don't know if it's an electronic or vacuum actuated turbo.

Thanks Benedict, after my service and a good burn up on the motorway for a few days my engine is running sweet again, still have engine malfunction light on and was wondering if I diconnect the battery it might reset itself, I know I will have to get code to reset my radio and its the one thing that was not in my book.Thank you for your help.

No need to do that, the code can be reset. Have you got a code reader? If you live near me I can re set it. If not post your location and someone may be able to reset it for you.

I still suspect you have a wiring issue though.

I believe I have just cured my P0235 fault. It would only come on at low revs, idling in traffic, pulling up to a junction etc.

I fitted a new MAP sensor; about ÂŁ25 from Tansit Parts on Ebay. It was listed for a 2.2D Mondeo. Really fiddly to fit though.

So far so good, the P0235 hasn't returned.

One thing I did note, was that the MAP sensor reading on the live data on my code reader: with the old sensor, the value would drop below 100 at idle. The new sensor is 110 or higher at idle.

Code readers are cheap if you have something to connect them to though.

Hang on Johnb has topped my low mileage on 2004 2.0D 75K now on mine

I don't know where the MAP sensor is but as Winco has just changed his perhaps he can advise. I would check and clean the connector to it, then replace if it still throws the same error. Also, can your reader display turbo boost pressure? If so read it at idle and whilst reving and post the results here.

Many thanks, it'll probably get damp there so I would've thought using contact cleaner on the connectors first may save some hassle and expense, though the sensors are not expensive.

Problem resovled, car was in limp mode shows what type of driving I do thought as it felt like it was running ok around town and could do 70 on the moterway it was ok, had it into a garage and checked and it was the MAP once replaced it is back to its oldself and what a difference, at a cost of ÂŁ276 and to me worth it, Thanking all for there help.
