Key fob not working

Hi All,
I have a situation where the two buttons that open and close the central locking seized up and couldn't be pressed. So I picked up my second key that was working originally but it wont work. I changed the battery in the second key but it still wont work. I bought a new blank key off Ebay just the get the circuit board to use in the first key fob and put the new battery and circuit board in the first key. I then did the turn ignition on and of 4 times to reset the central locking to the first key but that didn't work. I then tried the same reset on the second key and that didn't work either. Fortunately I can still unlock the doors with the key in the lock but I have to put the key in the ignition immediately or the alarm goes off. Any helpful ideas please.

When he did mine there was no reprogramming required. This is what he says on his website too. He asks you to try the key on arrival as most times reprogramming is not required. He also gives clear instructions on how to reprogramme should the need arise - it's quite a simple process if followed correctly.

Yes the reprogramming process is easy to follow, I have it written down from the circuit board people. You can also find it on You Tube. I've been trying it for a few weeks now and got nowhere. That's what I'm not understanding about my issue, both KEYS work in the ignition, key one fob has a new circuit board and new battery but will not reprogramme. Key two fob used to work but would not work when fob one seized up originally and also has a new battery and will not reprogramme either. There is a guy local who does car key fobs, I think I'll try him.

I had last week or two an issue where the car would unlock fine but locking was intermittent and eventually the lock button stopped working.
I took the fob apart and the solder joints on the switch were fine no broken contact there so I pressed what would be the unlock button it felt dull, tried the trunk release button (least used) and it gave a solid click. Tried the lock button and no click felt just depressed as if it was full of something. I used electrical contact cleaner spray, sprayed it with button pressed then not pressed and while still 'wet' with cleaner pressed it a few times to free it off then sprayed some more, I did this to all buttons then used paper towel to dry the solvent off then warmed the board slightly with a hair dryer.
Put it all back together and now it's working perfectly and feels like brand new. Most of the time it's gunk that stops the microswitch working, try cleaning it out

Yes, tried both. Everything you can find on You Tube, I've tried. I have two lots of slightly different instructions, (but both involve turning the key on and off 4 times), from two online repairers and not getting anywhere. I've done this resetting of key fobs before and this is the first time I've had a problem.

Some fobs ordered online which come from China are 315mhz, a UK car needs 433mhz.
Didn't even think about that.

Anyway, I found my old circuit board in the bottom of the bin and the unlock and lock buttons were as I said earlier completely seized, so I sprayed with contact cleaner and just as you said they freed up and now click away great. Will have to try them in the same casing and key later this week.

Make sure you use gentle heat to evaporate any excess solvent from inside the switches themselves else the problem will return in a few months.
You should find it will work perfectly.

My key fob remotes gradually became more and more intermittent, until they stopped working. No problem opening and starting the car with the key directly. Changed batteries for new CR2032s, no difference. Looking at the circuit boards inside the key fob - various YouTube videos show how to change the battery, which gives access to the circuit board - I could see that there was a lot of 'goo' on the switches, some of it brown and some of it green. One of the switches had even become detached.

Here's a new circuit board for comparison:

To cut a long story short, I bought replacement microswitches on eBay and tried soldering them in. DO NOT BOTHER! It's a very tricky job and I'm an experienced solderer, didn't manage to do it using my phone as a 10x magnifier etc. It makes far more sense to just buy a complete new key fob for ÂŁ14 from:

this place here

Because you get a nice new, exactly as original key fob including a new circuit board (having new switches, of course) and a fresh battery. Split your old key into two parts as if you were changing the battery, then attach you old key front end (the old 'metal key' half) to the new back end (the new 'remote buttons' half). No need to expose the circuit board, just connect the old front half to the new rear half. You then need your car and new key fob electronics to be paired. Two things might have been stopping me getting this done at first attempt: firstly, many people have said that if the metal slider across where the key goes in gets stuck, you can't pair your key to the car. Spray some WD40 in and work the key in and out to free it up. It should appear as below if it is okay.

Secondly, I think I was being too slow and careful with the switching from Position 1 to 2 four times - some say you need to get it done inside ten seconds? I'd say you need to do it reasonably quickly (not slowly and deliberately), and with the door open. That's what worked for me - key in, 1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2 and you should hear a 'bing', pull the key out and press a button on your remote. I pressed all four. See the YouTube guides about how to do this. Result - remote now working better than ever, all four buttons responding instantly. Some people have suggested that methods for other types of Jag 'might work' - they don't.

You don't need a Mongoose, or to go to a Jag dealer if you have the original key and it works in the ignition. Buy the new fob, put the new remotes half onto the old key half, spray the ignition key hole, pair up as per YouTube videos with the door open. I've got no connection to whoever sells the new fobs on eeebaay, other than I've just ordered another one.

You must have every key with you when reprogramming, and as soon as you hear ping press a button on every key to register every key. You may have to attempt several times to crack it.
