Sorry, it was just showing that it does show in device manager.

I'm installing it on windows 7 ultimate 32bit, or should it only be the home premium or pro versions it works on?
It should be windows xp or windows 7 pro 32-bit... but I'm not sure that would affect the way the mongoose cable operates when it is just sitting there plugged into the laptop.

Im gonna try it on a windows 7 pro virtual box now and see what happens.

Ok well can only go from my own experience, but when connected to the laptop and without SDD running, the mongoose is blinking like a Christmas tree.

If yours is just static red then that suggests something isn't right with the mongoose itself. Can anyone else out there confirm the behaviour?

the mongoose has never been connected to the laptop whilst it's been connected to the internet has it?
Definitely Green Christmas Tree flashing lights. There's an initial 1 sec. red light when 1st plugged into USB

It may have been i think as the laptop the virtual machine is on was still connmected to the internet, does this do something to the mongoose cable then?

Everything I read prior to setting up my own laptop said not to have an active internet connection on the laptop, at any point after installing IDS. I'm sure some of the mongoose supplier sites had comments suggesting that the mongoose could be 'bricked'.

Certainly looks like yours isn't 'starting up' properly when you plug it in. Have a look at the faqs on the site you bought it from to see what they say about the internet.

I bought it over 5 years ago and can't remember who i bought it from to be honest, might have to buy a new one. British Diagnostics have them for ÂŁ59.99 or ÂŁ79.99/ÂŁ89.99 with the software. Not sure the ones on ebay can be trusted to work really.

PM sent... with more details.

After installing the driver have you tried then plugging cable in, then doing a restart leaving it in

I don't think that is the problem. The mongoose is being detected by Windows. It is showing up in device manager. USB is plug and play, a restart is not needed. It does look like it's a more fundamental problem with the mongoose itself as even in a laptop that has never seen ids or the mongoose driver it should flash when connected rather than show a static red led.

Yes Mark, its just that when I first connected mine it came up as not connected, but it was flashing red, so restarted and then it was ok, sounds like he has got a duff unit

Finally SUCCESS..........

Found my old Dell Inspiron Mini laptop, already loaded with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate, loaded JLR SDD v130 on it last night and finally loaded the Mongoose drivers on tonight after work and Mongoose connected first time with green flashing LED's, went out to car after dinner and hooked it up to the car and connected straight away and read the VIN, started a new session and started delving in to the software, finally found what I was looking for in the diagnostics section and drilled down the symptoms tree to the drivers door security part and clicked on recommendations and then run the security set up program and within 5 minutes my remote fob was back up and working like new again, can now unlock the car with the remote without setting the alarm off and upsetting the neighbours.

Hooray! well done

At 10 to midnight I finally got my Mongoose working with v130.

Program loaded ok, but wouldn't recognise the mongoose cable. Loaded and installed the drivers from the v145 that came with the cable. Still no joy.

Checked cable on newer computer which recognised it.

Back on the old XP laptop and realised had to manually register the cable in 'new hardware' and link it to the drivers in the program/drew tech folder, and hey presto.

Had to try it out, of course. Neighbours prob wondering why that bloke was using his laptop in his car at midnight.

Thanks Martyn.

Your instructions have worked a treat and I now have a functioning tablet with the software up and running.

I just need to know how to read the codes now.

Any guides with pictures showing this operation>

Regards

John F

As was suggested in an earlier response that my mongoose cable might have been bricked I ordered a new one over the weekend from British diagnostics and will be delivered tomorrow, so as I found out that my current mongoose cable still works ok, I'll have a spare mongoose to sell at the same price that I paid for it, I'll update this post once it arrives and checked that it works ok with my laptop and connects to my car.

I had a problem connecting with the Mongoose software in the V130. Got the message that the VCM was not connected but I uninstalled that software and loaded the V145 mongoose pro driver and hey presto.

I just need someone to show me how to use it now.

That's what I had with v130 on Win XP. Had to copy the Mongoose Drew Technol. drivers from v145. Then in XP with cable plugged in, 'find new hardware' then 'find driver' to set the path to programs/drew/driver.

What size hard disk, Windows version, did you load on. Heard v145 needs 60Gb. Is that correct?

So, as mentioned in an earlier post I now have a spare Mongoose Cable from British Diagnostics to sell for what I paid for it plus a little P&P. PM me for details if interested?
