Does anybody produce a phone holder for my 4.2? One that would fit specifically to the interior without damaging it and would be generic so to fit many sizes of phones?

You might want to consider one of these:

I have one for my Mazda MX-5 and it works fairly well, clamped onto the cowl over the instruments. It does not scratch the car trim - it has a pad inside it.

I needed something to support my phone when I use it as a sat-nav, and I don't like vent-mounted devices, which interfere with my ability to direct the hot air accurately onto my hands when I've got the top down!

It puts the phone well up into my line of sight, BUT it needs a second swivel head fitted to it to enable the phone to swivel right round to a suitable angle:

The Jaguar cowel is a bit thicker and tapers, but I'm going to try it on there as well. They're cheap enough to be able to try anyway!

NQ, a bit more detail from the start would be good, such as the size of the largest phone?

For instance my Samsung S20 Ultra 5g won't fit in a few holders as is too big, also as Zed has asked where would you want to mount it, or perhaps your waiting for someone to recommend a suction mount and you'll say 'don't like them'? :D

Also do you ever have to use google maps or driving apps, meaning it needs to be closer to eye level?

Help us to help you! :)

Personally mine just charge in the glovebox and I don't use the phone in the car at all

OK, I probably wasted your time, I thought such a thing would be very easy to find the UK. Earlier I got one for my Cadillac CTS-V in the US, the beauty is you can install without using cupholders, vents etc, it clicks into the center console without marking it. Finally found that place again online, and yes, they do have for the XK, see this link:

To fit my phone, I'll fabricate something, I have a BlackBerry, that's not the hard part, the hard part is to get a good solid mount that doesn't scratch your interior.

Thanks

So I kinda answered my own question, thanks for input, and maybe someone else will benefit :)

I have got something similar to this in all my cars although the version I bought has a magnetic mount so it doesn't matter what size your phone is. They supply a metal plate which can be stuck to the back of your phone.

I have a thin rubberised cover on my phone and my wife has a book type cover and it works with both of those.

After hiring a car recently and struggling to wedge my phone between the dash and the windscreen so that I could use the sat nav I bought one of these as they mount on the windscreen so are universal. It is also magnetic so I can use the existing plate on my phone:

Agree; I use this in my wife's 2007 XK: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y42RKPF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have this one or variants by other companies in all my cars that have CD slots, which are now useless to me. This one I linked to has a particularly strong magnet so it works well with heavier phones or thicker cases (you slide their provided strip of metal between your phone and its case, or you can stick the strip to the back of the phone / case if you wish). No marks on the car, easy to remove, cheap, and works great. And again, this one has a really strong magnet.

I've always been concerned about the air-vent ones; lots of pressure on the plastic. But I take one of those when I travel and rent cars, since most rental cars these days don't have the CD slot.
