Programming folding mirrors on X250 XF Sportbrake

I put this on the XF forum, but got no replies so wondered if it might do better here:

I have a 2015 XF Sportbrake and years ago (when I got it!) it didn't have folding mirrors so as I had a previous model which did have folding mirrors I decided to swap them over (thinking that they would just work!) However I soon discovered that it's not as simple as that and the car needs reprogramming for them to work. At the time the car was under manufacturers warranty so I decided not to bother, however it is now way beyond the warranty so I would like to get this finally sorted.

Can anyone tell me (in simple steps please) exactly how this can be done? I know that there is a way to get software, but as I recall it needed a Windows XP computer, some sort of Jaguar software and an interface lead. I know my specialist did look at it a while back and tried simply ticking the box to say that the car had folding mirrors, but every time he unplugged the car simply forgot what it was told! I believe the door modules need files installing or something, but I fear it needs some specialist knowledge which I dont have.

Alternatively perhaps some kind soul who has the software and knows what they are doing could help. I would be willing to bring the car to you and I'm sure it is worth a few bottles or other suiltable inducement!

I would naturally stay socially distanced and bring sanitising wipes so we both stay safe!!!

I do not know about the 2015 but the earlier models were accessed via the touchscreen under Vehicle settings.
If you have the Handbook go to page 61 where it shows selecting mirrors to fold on or off.

Thanks Roger but the problem I have is that the car doesn't even know that it now has folding mirrors. Apparently it needs programming into the car and some files loading into the door modules before the option will even appear on the touchscreen. This will need doing with Jaguar SDD software, but it is not something I can do so I was hoping someone on here could help.

I saw your post some time back about rigging up a relay to the central locking on your car and to be honest something like that would be OK for me as I'm not too bothered about needing to select it on the touchscreen (although it would be nice) I'd just like them to fold on locking, but I guess the wiring on my X250 would be a bit different to yours.

Hi Rick, that is a problem as the XF does not use a folding mirror relay so it does not work the same way. I think the XF harnesses were not universal to all models so did not come prewired for extras that were not specified at manufacture but of course I could ,and hope, I am wrong. From the wiring diagram it would appear that you should have 8 wires on the plug to the mirror if the wiring is there or it will have 6 if not.

Hi Roger,

I wondered how your mod worked on the X type, but the relay explains it! When I fitted the mirrors years ago I did check and the car wiring does seem to be there with wires to all the pins on the connectors. This was one thing I did check! So I assume that all the hardware is there for the folding mirrors, but the XF is computer controlled (I assume via the CAN bus) so it needs the appropriate programming.

I was hoping someone on here would be familiar with the SDD software that might do the job, but perhaps it needs the expensive JLR Pathfinder software. Has anyone gone down the line of getting that and could it be used for a reasonable "contribution"?

I believe Pathfinder did not come in until MY2016 so SDD should work on the MY2015.
I do have SDD but without the vehicle attached I cannot get into the dealer screen options . I sold my X Type but can still bring the vehicle up but cannot access functions. Perhaps there is someone in your area that could plug in and have a look.

Hi Roger,

Yes, I understood at the time that the SDD software should work. To be honest, I haven't had anyone near me who has volunteered the use of the SDD software and knowledge, so perhaps a day out to Kent might be in order. I do travel round quite a bit. Perhaps we could get together and see if it can be made to work?

That is a good thought but I am sure there must be someone near you. Try https://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=75437&highlight=mongoose+owners to see. martyn812 was in Bedfordshire.
With this Covid business going on and my age and being in the High lockdown conditions put on us in the London postcode area I am keeping well away from everybody at the moment. I would not hesitate in normal circumstances.

Hi Roger,

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you. Quite understand your feelings, especially with another lockdown now coming!

Good idea searching for members with the software near me - didn't think of that! I'll get in touch with him and see if he can help.

Cheers, and hope you survive lockdown II OK!
