Spires Stage 2 Exhaust - OMG!

Just had a Spires Stage 2 exhaust fitted to my 2011 XFR.

Well, what a transformation! I thought she sounded good before BUT...oh my...it's EPIC!

Deep, rich, mature V8 sound but it's not 'LOUD' like you get with bean can conversions, this is sweet, rich, burbley, deep...and the overrun...forget pops, it now sort of thumps & whumps and girgles in a quite naughty, slightly dirty way

There's absolutely NO resonance or drone and my goodness, does it sing when it's pushed.

Can't stop grinning and the BEST news is I don't have to drive it as fast to have fun, which is good for my licence. I now get alot of pleasure from cruising in second, lifting off and hearing her burble, burp and whump!

Congtats to Matt @ Spires for making a really excellent piece of kit.

I've been looking at XFR's on off, if ever I needed to have one car that ticks the 4 door saloon and V8 engine boxes, this is the one. With a spires exhaust... in Kyanite Blue!

Are either of you two in the London/Home Counties region? I would welcome the opportunity to have a listen once my wallet recovers a little from my recent XFR purchase...

I'm in Bexley, South East London/North Kent if that's within striking distance?

I should hope so, I'm only in Maidstone...:D
Thank you for that, perhaps we can sort something after I get back next week? No great hurry, whenever it's convenient for you.

Good plan bigtel - would certainly be a weekend and it'd be great to compare notes.

Will let you know dates/location asap.

Where's home for you btw?

I'm in. Great idea.

Oh dear, more expense. Listened to a Spires stage 2 on an XFR-S yesterday. It's being removed prior to the car being sold, so I'm buying it from the owner, and sticking it on mine.
Big Tel, you NEED one of these...

Welcome to the club Brian! I have the super-duper sound system, TV, DAB, iPod and all that jazz. Not turned any of that stuff on since I got my Spires 'zorst. Say's it all really....

Same as that Chris. I've got all of the knobs and whistles apart from the telly, but I've got to do something to compensate for the lack of supercharger whine...

Next Monday. Can't wait!

I have a quicksilver exhaust on mine with the standard center section.........not a huge fan of the X pipe as i had one on my previous XKR. more a muscle car sound kind of guy.

Due to that i'm thinking of a H pipe........

on tne meet front well up for it....i'm in Evesham Worcestershire.......how about a meet somewhere around Oxford....some great pubs in the nearby villages with big car parks...... :)

Works for me.

Oh yes, exactly what Chris said in his original post. The XFR talks to me like a dirty slut now. Look ma, no hands...

The existing centre section remains in place with the Spires stage II. Only the two back boxes are changed.
It is the Spires Stage I that replaces the centre section I believe.

Good point.......was just presumimg that if people had the stage 2 that they allready completed the stage 1......cheers chap.

The designations are a bit ambiguous.
Maybe someone who has spoken to Spires, or had both stages added, could clarify what the various combinations produce?

Hi all, I maybe able to help here.

Stage 2 is the first thing to do - removal of standard back boxes provides improved flow and gets you the noise we all love.

Stage 1 is the second thing to do - simplifying flow in the centre section to give you a full cat-back system on the basis that you already have a stage 2 fitted. Of course you can have stages 1&2 fitted at the same time.

When I talked to Matt @ Spires about the value of stage 1, he said interestingly that stage 1 doesn't paricularly change the tone of the exhaust. He said it was only relevant if you decided to buy his ECU Upgrade - this upgrade, plus the cat-back system will provide "near to" 600hp. (!)

SO, stage 2 gives you noise but no performance gains, stage 1 is only relevant if you want to improve output via upgrading the ECU but you must have the full cat-back system (stages 1&2) in order for the ECU upgrade to work properly.

Simples!

Perfect! Thanks Chris.

Matt is very quick to respond and very helpful. I made an enquiry as to whether I needed Stage 1 & 2 together, and he got right back to me to ask what I would like to achieve. For me it's simply to enhance that beautiful V8 burble in enthusiastic driving without altering the civilised character of the car when driving normally. 500 BHP is quite enough for this old geezer so I'm not after boosting that.
Just as Chris said above what I "need" :) is the Stage II and no remap required.

I have just had a Spires stage 2 system installed and I have to say what a great job and Matt was very professional. The system is high quality and sounds great. It is not offensive on start up but it is louder than stock but when you accelerate it is a wonderful sound. I parked up in Warwick after I had it done and a chap came right over when I stopped and started to ask about the XFR. When I start the engine it has a much deeper growl to it and when cruising it is only slightly louder than before but not audible over the radio (which I only turned on briefly for the news on the way home!) My son explained it well when he said "you can really hear the change of gear now" Top marks to Matt and Spires and a big thank you. Now I have posted this I am off for another drive...
