Stuck in Reverse

Afternoon Guys,

I think my Jag is stuck in reverse - although I'm not entirely sure.
Drove it to work this morning all well & good but then I dropped it into Park it didnt 'feel' quite right but I ignored it.
When I came to leave tonight the car wouldn't spin over, nothing dead, although I have full iginition.
I noticed the display on the selector is showing its in Reverse, even though the shifter is in Park. So I move the shifter through Reverse to Drive & back but the display stops at Reverse.
Whats odd is the display moves through the rest of the postions with the shifter, including the 5-4-3-2 of J-gate.

So does this sound like the bolts loose or dropped out the cables underneath or more of a issue at the shifter end? (I had a quick look & it all looks fine up top)
Also I understand they are a 10 & a 8mm bolt head but does anyone know the bolt size - just in case they have gone gone & I need to take fresh ones with me? As obvousuly its stuck at work & my tools are at home.
Also is there anything else I am likely to need?
Is the cable on the drivers side (UK Car?)?
Will I need to remove any heatshields etc to access them?

Thanks

You’ve already answered your own query Ross, time to get the spanner’s out. Pretty confident it will be as you have surmised.

Just a quick update :-

I managed to get under the car a couple of days ago & low & behold the bracket is missing one bolt completely & the other was loose. Ive tightened the remaining bolt, managed to align the bracket enough to snatch drive so at least I could get her home. Now its a job over the Easter weekend.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Just to finish this off I managed to get a hour where it wasnt raining! Got the old girl on a ramp & got a bolt into the bracket. Did it up right & took the other out, replacing it with a new stainless bolt, locking washer & thread locked in. Then removed the first bolt & repeated.
Took her for a run & all is well. :-D
It is amazing a 30k car is completely disabled by a 9 pence bolt lol.

Ross your car has the ZF6HP gearbox, right?

I'm surprised this happened 'cos it's usually common on the early cats with the Ford 5R55N.

Does she start in Neutral too now?

Glad it's sorted nayways. ;)
