Hi, Tom & James - welcome to Battersea Cats' Home. Lots of useful info & support on here. Tom, I gather you've managed to get your profile pic sorted.

Hello.

I am Tim and have just acquired a gorgeous XK Convertible. I'm in Great Dunmow, which for reference is close to Stansted airport. Despite being ten years old it has only done 51,000 miles and is in excellent original condition. I have the first receipt from when it was new, detailing over ÂŁ10,000 worth of optional extras fitted, including quad pipes. I'm still finding my way around them all!

This will be the first time in 25 years that I have not had a SAAB. For the last 16 years my daily drivers have been 9-3 Convertibles. However, I have many miles of driving XJ6s during the 1980s, when my father ran a succession of them. Then I also had many miles driving XJSs, both Coupe and Convertible, during the 1990s, when I worked with a friend and we frequently drove up and down the country in the course of our work. My 88 year old father has just taken delivery of a new F Pace, which I found to be a very nice drive.

I am a 1960s Lotus Elan enthusiast and write regular articles in Club Lotus News and the Historic Lotus Register magazine, as well as running my own website, lotuselansprint.com I'd be happy to chat to anyone about Elans and +2s! Whilst I do get my anorak out for Elans, I am quite normal, married, children and grandchildren, regular runner and cyclist, International Dragon yacht racer and self-employed consultant.

Looking forward to many happy miles in the XK and on here.

Hi Tim, and a belated welcome to the forum: I have been away for the last week.
I am sure you will love your gorgeous XK: I still smile every time I see mine, and that is after two years!

Good man Safari,Its a long time since I saw a CX Safari on the road or a BX for that matter either.
Modern Citroens seem to have lost that quirky adventurism as well as engineering individuality that
they were once famed for. Of course you are now going to state the excellence of the current range,
but they are just not the same are they ?Good luck with the Jaguar

Hi Reddiesel

"course you are now going to state the excellence of the current range"

sorry but but this is true in my mind, 26 years of only driving Citroën gets a bit ingrained, I have just sold a Xantia on eBay that I owned for 12 years and my C5 is lovely car to drive and being 2.0 HDi does zillion miles to the gallon, along with more extras you can shake a stick at....

though i I have now used the X Type after replacing battery and it feels so different to me , horrible Ford switchgear and hard seats....
Given some time I think I will enjoy driving it, does look beautiful and handles great, quite pleased it came with nearly new Pirelli P7 Cinturato

Hi all!

1[SUP]st[/SUP] time poster currently on my 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] jag experience.

The first was an XJ8 years ago but that went in favor of the autobahn contingent. White Van Man ended that run 6 months ago and I needed something quick so I got what I thought was the best value for money something I fancied within 20 miles knowing it'll at least buy me time to look around properly. I was so happy with the jag I decided to keep it as my day runner.

2002 X-Type 2.5 V6 SE AWD with 45K on the clock, FSH etc.. and finished in that champagne gold colour. A nice example that so far that has only cost me a new MAF sensor in repairs. She looks good for old bird ;-)

I am Mike. I live on the west coast of Canada on a small island. I have just purchased a beautiful and well loved XK8 convertible. It is my first Jag. I am very much looking forward to driving this little black beauty. She turns heads for certain. I wish I looked as good as her :) but alas...

Hi Mike, and welcome to the forum.
The XK8 is indeed a very beautiful car, and I am sure you are going to love it!
I suggest that you add details of your car to your signature, so that we know exactly what you drive when responding to your comments and queries.

Thanks Dave. Have done as suggested. If people only knew how marvelous these autos were to drive, they would be twice the price. I will need to watch my speed though, they are just as easy to drive very fast as they are to idle through town. And here on Vancouver Island we have high speed motorways with very little traffic so it is possible to open them right up at times. I have been fighting a very rare illness similar to leukemia for a decade and this XK8 was on my bucket list so to be able to own one makes me simply excited. Trouble is now everyone wants a ride :)

I have had my XK for well over 2 years now, and still have a smile on my face every time I see it!

I take it from your post that you have added your car details to your signature, but for some reason they are not showing on your latest post.

Hi,
I'm Martin.
I am retired and live in South Devon.
My first venture into the Jaguar family was in 2014 when I bought a 10 year old S type 2.5 V6 Sport.
I'm loving it.
As with any old car there are a few little things that go wrong and by joining this forum I am hoping to gleam knowledge off owners who will have been there before me.

Welcome to the forum Martin. I am sure that you will find it both informative and enjoyable: I know I do!

I suggest that you add full details of your S Type to your signature, so that members know what model you drive when responding to your queries and comments.

If you have any photos please post one or two: We always love to see pictures of members' cars!

Hi
Martin - yes these are fabulous cars. Bought mine as an ex demonstrator from Jaguar cars directly off the net. My car s-type is 2007 the only problem I have encountered are accessory problems. I have a pioneer audio system and a multi changer in the boot, i have replaced this four times. The driver seat also has given me problems as I am a big chap and used to wind the seat back until it stops. After replacing the seat several times I was told by a jaguar mechanic to bring the seat forward to take it off the stop so the achilles screw does not lock. This has worked well and I now have no further problems. I have now had the car nine years and I love it.

Hi Steb, it would be good if you could start a thread with your experience of your car to date, as some forum members are considering taking the plunge.
Im sure they would find it interesting.

Experience to date of XE 163 manual R-sport .

Firstly let me start by talking about how this car looks, I've had some nice cars in the past but this one is a real head turner. The first day I had it, I was at the train station just about to head home when a guy was waving furiously at me.
i stopped thinking something was wrong but he simply told me he thought it was fantastic and could he have a look. Also had a few windows down on the motorway whilst stuck in jams, people asking about it, always nice when A BMW driver shares an admiring glance.
Inside the car looks just as good with the black and red 2 tone leather adorning the seats. The only downside (and it's not a big one) is the materials are a bit plasticky (if that's even a word), my previous car was the new Merc C-class which from an interior perspective is in a league of its own but it's definitely better than the equivalent 3/a4 rivals.

The driving position is great for me, I'm 5"10 and do a fair bit of motorway driving and find it excellent on long journeys.
In terms of MPG, I'm averaging about 55 which I'm disappointed with, the merc and my previous 3 series both averaged about 60, jag claim it does 78 but it doesn't get anywhere near that and I certainly don't have a heavy right foot. Best I've ever achieved was a 400 mile motorway drive when I got 68 out of it.

there are enough gadgets to keep everyone entertained but make sure you get the latest software updates for the satnav and radio as mine from factory wouldn't do traffic updates, the radio would randomly rewind itself about 5 seconds and the clock would lose time regularly. All fairly minor things but enough to be annoying in a car of this spec.

On country lanes (and there are a lot of them where I live) the Xe comes in to its own, put it in sport mode and the 163 engine is more than enough to give acceleration and handling like nothing I've driven before. (I do wish now I'd gone for the 180 but that's only because the 163 has left me wanting to see just how much different Atherton 180 is).

Get on a straight and from 30-70 it's absolutely effortless making overtaking easy, low road noise too which is a massive bonus.

The app which comes with the car, allows you to locate your car, which may sound like a stupid thing but I've certainly required it more than once at airports, shopping centres etc. And although it doesn't let you use Apple car play more and more apps are being added all the time. Spotify as an example is now available for music buffs and there are even apps that can find you parking spaces and the best restaurants in town.

The interface is touch screen only which is great when stationary but can be a little tricky to use when moving. An additional control pad like in all major rivals would be useful but not a deal breaker.

Now the only issue I have is with a rattle of 2 that appears at above 50mph and sounds like it's coming from the rear pass door and parcel shelf. Can get really irritating when on a long journey so find myself pumping up the volume on the excellent radio.
its been in a couple of times but they haven't managed to repair it yet. Let me know if anyone else has this issue.

In summary, as a previous owner of the latest c-class, both a 3 and 4 series, an a4 and a Volvo S40, this Xe is light years ahead of any of them.
Its fun, fast, and provides handling the others can't come close too. It's the best car I've owned and certainly the best of this bunch.

The only other consideration for those of you looking for a new car would be the c-class but only because of the luxurious interior, it's engine and road noise will bore the pants off you!

Go for an XE it's the best looking of the bunch and certainly the best to drive!
