Experience to date of XE 163 manual R-sport .

Firstly let me start by talking about how this car looks, I've had some nice cars in the past but this one is a real head turner. The first day I had it, I was at the train station just about to head home when a guy was waving furiously at me.
i stopped thinking something was wrong but he simply told me he thought it was fantastic and could he have a look. Also had a few windows down on the motorway whilst stuck in jams, people asking about it, always nice when A BMW driver shares an admiring glance.
Inside the car looks just as good with the black and red 2 tone leather adorning the seats. The only downside (and it's not a big one) is the materials are a bit plasticky (if that's even a word), my previous car was the new Merc C-class which from an interior perspective is in a league of its own but it's definitely better than the equivalent 3/a4 rivals.

The driving position is great for me, I'm 5"10 and do a fair bit of motorway driving and find it excellent on long journeys.
In terms of MPG, I'm averaging about 55 which I'm disappointed with, the merc and my previous 3 series both averaged about 60, jag claim it does 78 but it doesn't get anywhere near that and I certainly don't have a heavy right foot. Best I've ever achieved was a 400 mile motorway drive when I got 68 out of it.

there are enough gadgets to keep everyone entertained but make sure you get the latest software updates for the satnav and radio as mine from factory wouldn't do traffic updates, the radio would randomly rewind itself about 5 seconds and the clock would lose time regularly. All fairly minor things but enough to be annoying in a car of this spec.

On country lanes (and there are a lot of them where I live) the Xe comes in to its own, put it in sport mode and the 163 engine is more than enough to give acceleration and handling like nothing I've driven before. (I do wish now I'd gone for the 180 but that's only because the 163 has left me wanting to see just how much different Atherton 180 is).

Get on a straight and from 30-70 it's absolutely effortless making overtaking easy, low road noise too which is a massive bonus.

The app which comes with the car, allows you to locate your car, which may sound like a stupid thing but I've certainly required it more than once at airports, shopping centres etc. And although it doesn't let you use Apple car play more and more apps are being added all the time. Spotify as an example is now available for music buffs and there are even apps that can find you parking spaces and the best restaurants in town.

The interface is touch screen only which is great when stationary but can be a little tricky to use when moving. An additional control pad like in all major rivals would be useful but not a deal breaker.

Now the only issue I have is with a rattle of 2 that appears at above 50mph and sounds like it's coming from the rear pass door and parcel shelf. Can get really irritating when on a long journey so find myself pumping up the volume on the excellent radio.
its been in a couple of times but they haven't managed to repair it yet. Let me know if anyone else has this issue.

In summary, as a previous owner of the latest c-class, both a 3 and 4 series, an a4 and a Volvo S40, this Xe is light years ahead of any of them.
Its fun, fast, and provides handling the others can't come close too. It's the best car I've owned and certainly the best of this bunch.

The only other consideration for those of you looking for a new car would be the c-class but only because of the luxurious interior, it's engine and road noise will bore the pants off you!

Go for an XE it's the best looking of the bunch and certainly the best to drive!
Lol sounds like you like it Stebs, from a very enthusiastic owner
How about a few pics or did I miss them?

I'm hoping my 3 sons will go down that route from their X types in a few years

Cheers
Jim

Hello,
my names elio and I drive an 1989 xj40 4.0 sovereign german production.
Hi Elio, and welcome to the forum.

I suggest that you put your car details into your signature, so that we know exactly which model you drive when answering your queries and comments.

Enjoy both the XJ and the forum!

Hello,
I'm new to this forum but not to Jaguars as I have three, 2010 XKR Coupe, 2002 XKR Convertible, 2002 XJ Sport (given to my son). Los Angeles native, enjoy track days a couple of times a year, and still enjoy driving after 48 years of doing so. (Although with the traffic in L.A., you can't have too much fun!) Good morning, and welcome. The XKR coupe looks cool, the other attachments don't seem to work.

'Ello, tberg, fancy seeing you in these parts - compliments of the season, an' all that. That custom diffuser really does look good on the X150.

(for those who don't frequent jaguarforums.com, this gent is a regular over there)

Hello All,

Bought my first Jag in November and it was a beautiful honeymoon.
Then a cold snap caused the air suspension to act up. Googled the hell out of the internet and found some great guidance (and some nonsense) in the threads of the jaguar forum.
Just finished my first Jaguar repair without breaking anything nor spilling any blood.

I worked in the aerospace industry for many years and now I drive a rocket ship. The Jaguar is an exceptionally sophisticated vehicle. Driving one and learning more about them is a great pleasure. Hope to participate in some of the threads and share my personal experience with repairs.

Hello, tried using my other forum nicks but it wouldn't have it hahaha, so here I am under my proper name and initials. I currently drive a 2009 XF, its a bit of a love/hate relationship as for the last year its caused a bit of grief, ie tyre sensors packing up, under bonnet air bags exploding when I accidentally scrapped down a kerb, and the fuel filler cap becoming uncooperative. I also need another rear screen as 4 of the heater elements have packed in (right in the middle of the window).
I am retiring this month so will drive even less than I did as I much prefer 2 wheels to 4 in these days of lookalike cars.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter, and welcome to the forum.
You seem to have had a hard time with your XF: Which one is it? I suggest that you add the details as your signature.
I had the XF 3.0D S, and absolutely loved it, only selling when I retired because my mileage would not suit the DPF.
I had problems with the TPMS, which I loathed, but nothing else.

Hello All,

Having lurked for a while and recently re-joined the Jaguar fold, I thought I should introduce myself...

I'm Rob and live in South Devon. Current daily drive is a 2000 M/Y XJ8 4.0 which I picked up in April for a princely sum of ÂŁ350. A few faults on purchase (hence price), namely a power steering pump that emptied the reservoir every 20 miles, a couple of slick tyres and an ABS fault (usual dry joints on PCB in module). All fixed myself and some new boots, plus a bit of welding for MoT in August and have already covered just over 7000 trouble free miles. This isn't my first Jag, having started with a '72 Daimler Sovereign (4.2) and subsequently followed with an '85 XJ-S HE and a couple of XJ40's and a convertible JaguarSport XJR (3.6) - one of a kind as far as I know! My son arrived in 2004 and consequently reverted back to Range Rovers for the last decade for practicality reasons (Off-road, towing, carrying PA equipment etc). So, after a couple of RR Classics, I now run a P38 and an XJ8. P38 is currently awaiting a gearbox transplant that I hope to start on Sunday and hasn't been on the road since the XJ8 came along!

Other hobbies include various pets (including horses) and a couple of speedboats - one being rebuilt from hull up and one we use when time permits... I'll turn my hand to most things if needed, but stronger mechanical and electrical skills than 'arty' ones, but working on the latter and have been improving my skills in GRP and flow-coat :)

I have to admit that I've been very happy with the reliability and economy - averaging over 20mpg on my usual urban/suburban run of 26 miles a day (Kingskerswell to Kingswear and back). Next on my agenda is an XKR... ;)

Here she is:

Welcome to the forum Rob, same wheels I had on mine. Enjoy.

This was the most recent prior to the X308 - 1989 JaguarSport XJR 3.6 with a difference...

The one that got away! Might be of interest to some as it appears to have been a one-off conversion. Often regret selling, but with newborn could really afford to run car and van, so consolidated on a Range Rover!

Hello Dave, well I think I've managed it and put in what the car is. We've had it 4 years and the 1st 3 were great, but I think that maybe a lot of the problem is the lack of use its been getting the last year, (3500 miles) and all local stuff, our average mpg is down to 19.7 because of that.

I'd love to have a Mk 2 again, but the prices are daft in my opinion plus of course you don't keep a car like that out in the average british weather!

Morning everyone, hope I am doing this in the right place.
My name is Gary I work for the local council (Fife). I've wanted a Jaguar since I a wee boy, it's taken a while but got a 3litre diesel xf in Polaris white and its great. It's the first car for a while I look for an excuse to drive. I've had civics, bms, mercs and volvos but none as nice as the Jag.We also have a Peugeot RCZ and a wee van for carrying junk and keeping everything else clean. Looking forward to a good gab with likeminded people who will know my car better than me.

Hi Gary and welcome aboard, good to have you here

You're in the right place, sort of....lol

You could also try making a post into the new members section as you have done and be sure to include pics and show her off

Maybe add a similar one into the XF section and introduce yourself around there too? Can't hurt any

All the best mate
Jim
